Nothing significant would happen in the West if they blew up a church.
But if some smartass would release a virus that would kill Cisco routers and so leave the continent without internet they'd have another crusade on their hands, consisting of youth pissed off because we can't access our favourite porn social networking sites and educational forums. |

You must have searched long and hard to find that piece since the first two pages of the google search turned up things like this:
And of course, these men have come out of the church just as three Armain (ph) priests also came out of the church yesterday. According to the IDF, the priests held up plaque (ph) out, a sign saying "save us." The Israeli forces responded to that, those Armain priests were then taken away. And one of those priests in interview later on, in fact, said that the Palestinian inside the church had looted parts of the building and it caused some substantial damage. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIP...24/ltm.16.html |

It helps if you know the right church in the first instance. The most insane of references will be secured. Well, shucks, thanks Blowwhard! You mean, when discussing an alleged occupation and looting of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre it helps if you quote international news agencies such as the B.B.C. and C.N.N. which show that it was really the Church of the Nativity... The list just goes on and on and on for pages. Oerdin Could you then demonstrate in this list (which you obviously couldn't be bothered to consult before getting the site of the siege and alleged looting completely wrong) the way in which: The Palestinians...looted the place. Because I'd say it's fairly clear you don't understand the meaning of 'looting'. molly is a problem child. Blowwfly Even if I were, you're a Texan. I still win. |

Currently most people are quite tolerant and forgiving, (unlike the muslims) Mosque bombings/occupations/etc only rise significant ire when it's westerners (or Israelis) who do it, so I'm inclined to think it's mostly a convenient excuse to vent. |

"terrible war crime"? They are a protected category of building, so civilians should be able to use them as a place of refuge. They lose that protection once they are used by a belligerent. But it happens so often that it has become a matter of course to treat them as hostile locations much of the time.
Obviously insurgents purposely do this in the hopes they can get a first shot before we level the place, but the story about gunmen never gets out, only that a church gets destroyed. Which is why most insurgents should be punished for war crimes, specifically blurring the civilian combatant line on purpose. |

It also doesn't help that muslim populations gloss over the fact that insurgensts were using them and instead focus solely on us shooting at/clearing insurgets their mosques.
No choice though, becasue as soon as we don't and thus validate the tactic of using mosques as safe houses, we pretty much doom every such place to being used as such. |
