Cheney Defies Bush Order; Endangers National Security

Ah, good to know the Vice President is not part of the executive branch. Perhaps he's in the Judicial branch? Or Legislative?

I guess he gets a tiebreaking vote in the Senate, so ... maybe he thinks that makes him legislative branch? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...smilies/hm.gif

OpVJokl8 06-22-2007 09:25 PM

wait, he's really claiming that?

He must be working to prepare an insanity defense http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

It's hard to get fired from government work. Not the head of agencies like that. Those guys serve at the pleasure of the President.

I guess Alberto's good at pleasuring the President. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/cute.gif

Oerdin, shouldn't that have Cheney above the branches?

Screw "call(ing) his ass out." Impeach his ass. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/nod.gif

Better living through definitions. http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif

"That depends on what the definition of is, is."

Creation of "enemy combatants" who are neither criminals nor prisoners of war.

And now this. (and no doubt many more things I missed).

The next president will say "no, I didn't murder that man, I merely contributed to his unplanned death, it is like a totally different legal term that you haven't specifically written a law against yet, so there."

Wasn't Cheney claiming Executive Priviledge when he was refusing to divulge details of his meetings with energy executives back in 2001?

FLASHBACK: Cheney Argued Energy Task Force Probe ‘Interfered With Executive Branch’

The Office of the Vice President has asserted that Dick Cheney “is not an entity within the Executive Branch” in order to thwart an investigation into his handling of classified material. But there was once a time when Cheney prevented investigations by claiming they interfered with the Executive Branch.

Dana Milbank reports today in the Washington Post:

Cheney has refused to comply with an order governing the care of classified documents; his office concluded that the order does not apply because he is not “an entity within the executive branch.”

That’s quite opposite the argument Cheney made in 2001, when he said that a congressional probe into the workings of his energy task force “would unconstitutionally interfere with the functioning of the executive branch.” Cheney has, in effect, declared himself to be neither fish nor fowl but an exotic, extraconstitutional beast who answers to no one.

Milbank is referring to an instance in 2001 when GAO chief David Walker sent a “demand letter” for information and documents related to Cheney’s energy task force meetings. In response, Cheney wrote a letter to Congress informing lawmakers “of certain actions undertaken by an agent of the Congress, Comptroller General David M. Walker, which exceed his lawful authority and which, if given effect, would unconstitutionally interfere with the functioning of the executive branch.”

Appearing on ABC’s Nightline on July 25, 2001, Cheney said, “This request that in fact we’re supposed to provide [Congress] with this information with respect to…those meetings in the Executive Branch between the Vice President and other individuals strikes me as inappropriate.” Last night, The Daily Show aired the footage of Cheney’s remarks. Watch it: Video follows at the link.

wtf oerdin

seooptiman 06-27-2007 04:33 AM

You people laughed at me when I said Oerdin was sliding into mental illness. Look at him now.

Screw this. I'm not getting myself in trouble by covering for Oerdin when the mods won't even do anything themselves to fix the damage. Original quote going back up...

Last I checked, the VP isn't a member of this site. And if we restricted everybody who called for a politicians head, most of the people in this thread would be restricted.

So enough with the personal attacks. People are welcome to their opinions of politicians... even if they are moronic.

So enjoy, and enough with the attacking members.

Uh, last I checked making violent statements about government officials (even if there's no risk of actual violent action) is NOT a form of protected speech and may in fact be highly illegal. I'm trying to find a specific citation of the relevant law.

Edit: Not having much luck. The Sedition Act (covering the advocation of violent overthrow of the government) was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. And now that I think about it, Ann Coulter just a few days ago had said openly on Chris Matthew's Hardball that she wished John Edwards had been assassinated.

You do know I actually like Oerdin and don't have any problem with him, right?
