Default Mexican lawmakers block Fox's speech
Obrador seems to be Al Gore x2 with a little contempt for democracy and the rule of law thrown in.

Except that he isn't be able to prove that. Sometimes people actually do loose elections by getting less votes.

So apparently the electoral court, which from all accounts that I've read is a well-respected institution, is wrong when it says there's no significant evidence of fraud?

Based on that, what those Mexican lawmakers did today was childish at best and, at worst, an insult and deliberate slap in the face to true democracy. Insofar as I'm concerned, the leftists/populists there are bordering on just being as bad with respect to elections as our own homegrown authoritarian-minded right-wingers.

Gatekeeper On the contrary, I think their intentions are more serious. They intend to overthrow the "government" of Mexico. Stay tuned.

The military hasn't budged any significantly so far, and the support for Obrador doesn't seem to be armed.

It is likely that the resulting government, whatever party it is, will be extremely weak, and will fall in a matter of monthes, or only a few years. This will prompt new elections where all parties will do their best to prevent the others from frauding.

There was no civil war when Chavez came to power. There was no civil war when Morales came to power. There was no (extra) civil war when Uribe came to power. There was no civil war when Argentina completely fell into an economic and political crisis.

They need to find those commanders who took care of business in 1968 and have them clean up the streets once again.

Crazy leftist politicians whining about the part of the election they lost. Damn subliminal messages! Floride probably played some part in his loss as well be making the Mexican public's bodily fluids impure.

I don't support what Obrador is doing. While the election was probably not totally clean, it was still a three way race, and even iof Calderon won, he certainly would not have a clear majority to rule, allowing the PRD, whcih is even newer than PAN, to possibly either obstruct any policies they really disliked, or could work with PRI to get laws passed in spite of a continued PAN precidency. Obrador's general stance does not help democracy in Mexico.

Obrador is going to establish a parallel government, huh? Well, this could get interesting in a terrible sort of way. If things truly go to hell in Mexico, the immigration issues we have on the southern border now will pale in comparison to what's coming.

I don't think it would matter if God (or the spirit of Karl Marx or whoever) himself came down and said Calderon got more votes, Obrador would still claim he was cheated.
