But number 5 is to honor your father and mother. And this has extra associated with it (that your days may be long upon the earth).

What is special about honoring your mother and father? It seems to be one of the general things that is common in all cultures, but I am looking at it from a Judeo-Christian prospective.

That goes outside of the Judeo-Christian prospective, and goes against the point that it is in all cultures (I think), including ones where it isn't tied to religion.

We can expand the discussion to include other prospectives, and I would be interested to know a culture where it wasn't part of the culture to respect your father and mother.

And to the jokers who say this one, while there are some elements as such, it is also in the culture to respect your parents.. so it isn't an example.

Jon Miller It's the reason christianity is still around. If you didn't honor your mother and father, you'd have not reason to continue on the same stupid religious traditions as them.

Why should it take court? Why wouldn't your word be good always?

In the Catholic, the 5th Commandment is Thou Shalt Not Kill. In the Jewish and Protestant, the 5th Commandment is "Honor thy Father and Mother."

im not all that relegious but i think it means to honor those that gave u life. Regardless if they turned out to be drug addicted child molesters. What do you do then? Honor them from a secret location in another state / province.

I absolutely love being a parent. That doesn't mean certain things weren't delayed until a more opportune time.

Why are couples waiting until a later age to have children? To get their career started more easily. Hard to do that when you have to make sure you're at the day care by 6.

That said, I'll repeat, I LOVE it. were you ignorant of the fact you wouldnt be able to do certain things because of a child before you had one?

then why does the idea of forgoing those things deserve respect or merit?

its part of the territory of being a parent. its not extra special
