I think it would be difficult to track the guy down ingame if he didnt want to be found. he can always start a new account. he will lose his skill training, but he could buy a highly trained character with a fraction of that money

I wouldnt give a large amount of isk to some random dude, no matter what his reputation. I was iffy about buying a corp jump clone contract for 25mil isk (about Ј3 spread amongst the corp) and the corp we bought that from has expensive stations and assets would could take revenge on.

and, this is an other game, isnt it?

EVE online has a lot of features that have been missing in most MMORPGs (good economic system and a lack of repetitive camping to gain levels), however from what I hear the gameplay is pretty slow-paced and can be a little boring...

The devs running the higher level scam will want to act to eliminate these people that are in effect stealing from them

Because Eve has a more developed economic system. The Other Games forum. A mod should move this thread to where it belongs. It clutters the OT.

You'd think so, but you'd be wrong.

Except for the fact that one day, cally decided to grab all the money that was deposited and fly off to space with an alleged total sum of 790 billion Isk. In real life, this would translate to \$170,000 - quite possibly the biggest MMO scam ever conducted.

I'm a bit confused, are ISKs transferrable into real money like dollars and sterling, or vice versa? I don't quite understand this whole equivalent thing. Are people paying over real money into this game?

The answer would effect my opinion on the whole thing.

And yes, I know nothing about MMPORGs other than what the acronym stands for.

It's not the responsibility of the game administrators to bail out those who lose out by buying, or being unable to sell, 'illegal' or black market goods.

If people were ploughing real money in through the game mechanics (subscription based contributions f.e) then there would have been a duty of care probably.

If people haven't lost money (only enjoyment) then it's a choice the game admins make, whether to intervene to keep the gamers playing, or let nature take its course.

well generally there are no respawns or anonymity in the real world, so a lot of the asshattery would get taken out fast.

And this is a major failing of mmorpg's. And why player killers are such a problem. As long as no actual money was stolen and no rules were broken, I don't see the problem.

If the thieves acted within the rules of the game and the players and/or administrators don't like the outcome, then modify the rules for the future.

But in a game featuring star pirates, you have to expect some thievery.
