Right Reverend Fathers, Brothers and Sisters,

As I have already mentioned somewhere, I've been translating the memoirs of St. Luke of Crimea "I Loved the Suffering" from Russian into English. My work is almost over, but I have doubts whether the translation is good enough. I have Russian, not English, as my mother tongue, so I cannot tell if the translation has no mistakes, if it's readable and understandable.

With that said, I would welcome your help in proofreading it. Perhaps, there is someone in the Discussion Community who specialises in languages. Such professional help might be very useful.

I think the problem arises in coming up with good grammatical, yet colloquial English in a way that does not distort the original meaning of the text. This is something that takes a lot of work, and requires knowing both languages well. I often cringe at the way foreign businesses translate their stuff into their English web sites and I am sure the problem works both ways. This is especially evident with both Chinese and Arabic. With business language, the mistakes are just silly. With theological language it is more crucial. But I would be happy to take a look at your English translation and offer suggestions. Then you would have to go back to the Russian to determine if any changes accurately reflect the original meaning. You can also deaden something through translation that was very lively in the original...
