I've heard lots of positive about the Panasonic DMP BD-35!

What price is the Samsung 1590/1600 over there? You can get it for $189 over here and it's pretty good. I'm fairly happy with my PS3 one gripe has just been resolved, you can watch netflix streaming video on it now. The only other thing I would prefer from a player and the last thing that would make me switch to a dedicated player is that damn fan.

Another vote for PS3 as well.

It's one hell of a multimedia machine.

Sony BDPS350/BDPS360B or BDPS550 are all good choices.

I've got that one. Good player.

BTW you've linked to the S550 which is the same, I believe, except that it has digital sound decoders built in.

Edit: When I read your post you only mentioned the S350, and by the time I'd clicked "Quote" you'd changed it!

I can't even hear my fan. Maybe my hearing just sucks that bad. My gripe is I had to replace my BD in my PS3 cause it died on me in the middle of watching the dark knight. Wanted to punt it across the lawn but decided against it (it's one of the original 60Gb versions). $150 later its fixed and happy. But I do enjoy my PS3 as my blu-ray player, it's mainly all it get's used for now anyway.

Yeah my drive went out in the middle of a film too. Luckily I had about a week or so left on the warranty so the replacement was free but for a $150 the PS3 would have seen the door and a stand alone player of a similar price would have replaced it.

I had the Samsung BD-P1600 (which is in your price range) and was extremely happy with it. The only reason I got rid of it was because I replaced it with another PS3.

I have a 1600 player, and would say it's a good buy. I went with it solely for the Nextflix streaming over buying a PS3 a few months ago, but now that Netflix has a disk for streaming for the PS3, it's a no brainer.

Of course they had to do this 2 months after I bought mine and not a PS3. Thanks, Netflix. [rolleyes]

i like my LG-BD390 - very quick bootup, netflix/youtube and all that, wi-fi enabled so updates are a breeze, and it works with a harmony remote without requiring a bluetooth infrared adapter

That is a valid point but the PS3 Slims can be controlled over HDMI. I have the Harmony adapter for my other PS3 but the slim is controlled by my Harmony through the TV's IR port. So if your TV supports controlling over HDMI, there is no need for an adapter.
