Cool. I wonder if these spiders have the ability to influence the color of their exoskeleton depending on which plant they make their home. For example, the crab spiders always seem to be excellently camoflagued to the flower they are found on. The bright white ones are always found on daisys and similarly white flowers. Are they raised on these plants, and therefore have the correct color genes, or do they "seek out" these plants once they leave their mother after birth. Can they tell what color plant they are on? I love invertebrates!
Nice hover fly this one has too! I love hover flies. I could watch them in my garden for hours. |

Thanks guys!!!
cdub I do not have the answers to your questions but I'd love to have them one day....hehe... The only thing I know is that once they are removed from the desired flower they seem unable to obtain the colour of the other flower they are moved to, but this fact needs to be clarified. Also, they can adjust their colour some tones lower and some tones higher than the colour of the flower. Some say they can adjust perfectly to any colour, but I have no idea if it is true.... |
