Hooray! I love fresh steamed artichokes. My favorite way to prepare them is to cut off the bottom, cut off the very top, and then use a scissors to trim the thorns off the remaining leaves. I then prepare thinly sliced garlic cloves. I slide a garlic slice behind each leaf. Steam for 25 minutes or so, and enjoy! Great with garlic butter.

That's pretty much how I like them too. I've tried preparing them several different ways, including grilling. I just like them best steamed.

Yummy! I bought 4 the other day, steamed and ate 'em up! Too bad they don't grow here, but the ones I got were beautifully fresh and not so terribly expensive. What a treat!

We have two large plants that produce a lot of them. I wouldn't buy them otherwise because they're just too expensive at the stores. One of the plants is a volunteer from the original mother plant. As of a few weeks ago, one of the seed heads sprouted at least 100 seedlings in one of our garden beds. So, looks like we'll end up with several more plants next year:>

I'd love to grow artichokes....theoretically, we could grow them in NYC....but I think our season isn't long enough in terms of weather that is neither too hot nor too cold.

Very nice....after have steamed them,you can prepare a good "sugo" for pasta...
Just take away the tender part...fry some onion in olive oil,untill starting getting goldy....put artichokes 10 seconds turning everything(quite high fire) and add white wine(pay attention not burn the house..:-)),just a little...let it evaporate and add milk and let it go until is a cream(adding milk if becames too dry and if its not eough...if remain too liquid add simply some flour mixed with butter)...aside cut smoked provola cheese in very small pieces....
When pasta is ready,mix it with sugo and at the end add provola....enjoy!!!!!
