Default I URGENTLY NEED SOME GOOD ADVICE ON AN ENGINEERING UG PROGRAM
OK, guys, the thing is that i have managed to clear the entrance exam for one of the premier private engineering colleges in my country and have been called for counseling which is basically the time when i will have to choose which stream i want to take up for my 4 year Under Graduate engineering program.

So i have three options >>
1. Mechanical Engineering
2. Automobile Engineering
3. Mechatronics.

So heres what they all offer >>

1. Mechanical > The B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering is a broad and flexible degree program. The goal of the Mechanical Engineering curriculum is to create a flexible undergraduate educational experience with design, mathematics, modeling, computing, management, engineering science, humanities, social sciences and fine arts. Principal study topics include fluid mechanics; thermodynamics and heat transfer; solid mechanics; materials engineering; manufacturing; energy systems; dynamics and control, Computer Aided Design, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, etc. By enabling a broad and flexible program, students can customize and configure their programs to meet their objectives and particular career goals. Traditional students can prepare for technological careers in industry, graduate school or the road to management. The more interdisciplinary students can utilize this program as a launching pad for professional careers in business or public service

2. Automobile > The objective of the B.Tech. program in Automobile Engineering is to give a broad exposure including the design, development, testing, calculation and observation of the functionality of vehicles for roadways and railways. Furthermore, the program trains the students to meet the technological challenges and diverse needs of industry and society in various areas of Automobile Engineering and equips them to excel in a truly global industry. The Department's extensive laboratories and facilities include fuel testing, automotive diagnosis, inspection, adjustments and automotive services. In addition, students frequently visit the nearest automotive plants to update their knowledge in the latest technological developments.

3. Mechatronics > The programs offered by the Department are interdisciplinary and they draw faculty members from mechanical engineering, electrical sciences along with other basic servicing departments. Well-trained faculty members with experience in imparting knowledge to the students are grouped in the Department of Mechatronics. The members of the faculty have vast industrial experience and they are engaged in consultancy. Further, few faculty members are processing their research proposals for submitting to funding agencies. The proposals submitted relate to the current needs of the industry like Machine Vision, creation of fully automatic manufacturing systems. The Department has well-developed infrastructural facilities. Besides smart classrooms there are laboratories that include Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), Automation, Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS).

tl;dr : I have my mind set on only one thing, and that is to become an Automobile Engineer. I am also a 100% sure that i will be doing a PG in Automobile engineering after my UG. And then maybe a second PG in Transportation design.

So should i take Mechanical which i know i will not like since it will cover a broad spectrum of things rather than vehicle related stuff, but still leave my options open later on and give me a wider career scope. Or should i take Automobile which i'm dying to do, but which will give me a narrower scope and will only leave Automobile Engineering a career option in the future??
I'm not interested in Mechatronics at all but it's still the last option i've kept.

I know many of you guys out here are doing some or the other studies related to automobiles, so please guys, i need your help. I'm really really confused and can't decide on which one i should take to make a career in automobile manufacturing/designing!

PLEASE NOTE : YOU HAVE TIME TO REPLY AND HELP ME OUT ONLY TILL THE 13th OF JUNE, SINCE I HAVE TO CHOOSE MY PROGRAM ON THE 14th.

Oh, wow, I wish I could help but I'm afraid I know nothing about engineering. In any event, best of luck my friend. You seem very dedicated to following your dream and I know you'll do well regardless of which track you decide to take.

Thanks a lot Dom!! Even though you can't really help me i REALLY appreciate you replying here! And thanks for your encouragement, it really means a lot to me!

Cheers bro!

Btw, IIRC, mrfdesign was doing some sort of engineering program, and a few others were studying Transportation design.....hope they see this and fast!

Well it's done! I have secured admission in that Uni and it has a 240 acre campus. Yeah. And well i had to take up Automobile Engineering since all the seats in Mechanical Engineering had already been filled up. Well, everything happens for the best and so i'm happy about things and looking forward to attending that Uni.
Wish me luck!

Hey man. From experience in poor choice go with the automobile course. Even though the others may seem broader its not really what you want to do is it? Go with your heart. You got one life so choose something you know you will enjoy and are passionate about!

Hey mrf, thanks for your advice! But you know what, i'm really beginning to lean towards Mechanical since it will give me a wider knowledge base and greater career scope. Even if i will never do anything but car engineering and design, doing Mechanical ryt now and then specialising in Automobile engg seems to be the smarter option....since then i will have an upper hand over someone who would have done only Automobile from the beginning...
Well, that's what my relative's say....a lot of them are engineers, including my dad.
