Default Dell/Apple laptop battery recall
Phew! my Dell XPS laptop battery is safe. The serial number is not on the list of recalled components. Missed it by 1!

I never really liked Dells, I have always felt they were just like crappy cheap comps for schools, and my computer science major friend got an inspiron and raved about how it was the best ever, and that my new HP Pavillion sucks, WHOS LAUGHNG NOW hahahaha. Well i do feel sorry actually for the ppl who bought them, if it were me it would suck. One of my apartment-mates also has an inspiron.

They are Sony batteries. Other brands use them too.
I love my Dell XPS M1710. It's the fastest machine in town. I got lucky with the battery, but I can imagine it's an inconvenience if you have to send off yours if it's potentially faulty. Fires and explosions are very rare.

I might have plans for Alienware computer because i'm a game freak but Dell bought it. I hope dell will not share parts with Alienware for now.

You couldn't sue dell, because Dell doesn't manufacture the batteries. (and they have taken the initiative to issue a recall to prevent any injuries). Plus, I can guarantee you every single laptop that has 'exploded' has been replaced gratis by Dell. Also, if you haven't been injured and Dell replaces your laptop for free, what claim would you have against them?

I looked at Alienware before I bought my XPS, but for the same performance, the price was way higher.

Do the math; 4.1 million batteries recalled. 6 known fires, maybe more undocumented cases. You have more chance of being killed in traffic.
I read an article today that this recall might actually help Dell. If they'd hushed it up, like Ford did with the Firestone tires, it would have cost them a lot more in damaged image and lawsuits. This shows they take it seriously and aren't hiding anything.

And Dell will actually only be paying for a very small part of the recall, while Sony will be paying for nearly all of it. (could end up being in excess of $200 million bucks)

Just for the record, everything Sony that I've ever owned--minus my headphones--has been pure crap. This therefore comes as no surprise to me. Thankfully I don't have a Dell or Mac... but my Dad's Dell is most likely affected. Thanks again, Sony!!
