Default Test-drove the Lincoln Zephyr...
...and it's total CRAP!!! Let me tell you about it!
First off, we have no intentions of buying a new car (we're very happy with the TSX!). My dad got this deal in the mail that if you take a Lincoln Zephyr for a test drive, you get 2,500 frequent flyer miles, so he did and I tagged along. I saw this car at the NY Auto Show in April and wasn't impressed at all, but I thought I'd give it another chance.
We walk into the dealer and ask the sales guy about the Zephyr. He leads us over to it and tells us some features about it and how Ford has the Fusion, Mercury has the Milan, and Lincoln has the Zephyr, and that they are the same cars but the Zephyr is more luxurious. I also couldn't help but add that Mazda has the 6, which is what all 3 of those cars are based off of (he wasn't too pleased!).
My dad then asked for a test-drive, so he took us out back to a ruby red one with parchment interior, fully loaded with navigation, THX sound system, power seats, etc. We get in and head for the highway. The first thing I noticed was how terrible the visibility was. The dash is up very high to give it a "retro" look, and it's extremely difficult to see out onto the road. Also, the rear seats are placed up very high, so looking behind you is difficult as well. The interior components were mediocre at best; many parts seemed loose and poorly assembled. The THX sound system wasn't very impressive either; the premium sound system in the TSX is much better IMO.
Ok, onto the driving. It actually isn't that bad, in part because it is based on the Mazda6. The engine had a nice sound to it and the handling was very good. That's about all I liked about it.
Overall, I was very disappointed with the Lincoln Zephyr. It felt cheap all around and didn't feel exclusive, which is what Lincoln wants you to feel when your driving it. Because of this, I'm not surprised that this is the second one I've ever seen in real person (the first being the NYIAS). Clearly, Lincoln needs to try much harder if they want to compete with the top dogs in luxury, being BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, and Audi.
Overall Rating: 3/10
