Default How has your day been?
If anything has happened to you today that will make someone smile, cringe or laugh (even if it's just because your misfortune hasn't happened to them) then put it here.. not sure if this will make an interesting thread but its just a thought.
Anyway, I got all the way to work this morning only to be told that my shifts had changed (but noone had told me) and today is now my day off

could have had that lie in after all!

If it happens here in Oz, you get paid 3 hours work anyway if they made you lose your time going to work
Not today, but yesterday, I got really annoyed for the first time in years for a series of events and a spark provoked by a member here but it was all good and sorted by our very kind moderators who under my request, removed it all. Very nice guys
I was just surprised to see myself annoyed for the first time in such a while

I got a box of watch stands (nice velvet ones), so I took a bunch of old watches out of a box and put them on display in my changing room, much to my wife's chagrin.

You should've posted this thread two weeks ago.
I served His Majesty The Royal Sweedish King and Queen, the Prime minister, the senators and the leader of the opposition, in a shift that lasted 17 hours without a break. I went out to my car, fell on my knees and had to litterally crawl the rest of the 20-30 meters to my car because I was physically incapable of standing up. I then drove to another state (granted, only 70km away) and looked after my 92 year old granny. I moved house and I did my shoping and I did it all in the same day...
A day nobody on earth deserves. I swear I slept that night! Pretty rough day!

To the hungry lions
I work in special functions and attend - as a functions waiter - whoever is important enough to need a special function and stupid enough to chose Canberra to have it.

Nothing interesting today, but I did go deep sea fishing yesterday... lost $20 on jackpot because i caught a crudload of tiny fish, nothing substantial.
My daughter was getting tests done last week, was attached to a machine which monitors seizures. after 24 hours we gave up waiting for one, took the machines off, and she promtly had one.
Here you must be informed of changes to your work schedule 24 hours before they take effect (they don't need your permission to change it though) and if you work six or more hours you're entitled to a 30 minue unpaid break, after 8 hours that changes to an hour. I believe that for every 4 hours of work we're also entitle to a 10 minute paid coffee break which nobody uses (because we're always up and down getting coffee anyway)

On Saturday, I was allowed to buy cigarettes legally (at least attemt), but I couldn't keep them (not that I would want to, anyways). Police Explorers is fun. ^__^
But school vacations are boring. I'd rather be at school socializing with my friends instead of being stuck at home watching over my brother.

Yesterday I went to the SF Auto Show and saw some nice cars. I tried to buy a die-cast car there but they were so incredibly overpriced ($100 for a Kyosho X5).
It's pretty depressing having both my parents and younger brother have the whole week off, while I don't get a break until Thursday. And a mid-term in chem tomorrow doesn't help either

I've been working on this damn take-home exam pretty much all day, and am up to 12 pages handwritten and I still have one more question to go. Its also cold and grey here, which isn't helping student moral much, but Thanksgiving break starts after classes are over tomorrow (for me thats 11 am), so there is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel.

Here the law is that you must take a half hour unpaid brak every 5 hours, but it doesn't work that way in my hotel... Well I do get paid a no-break penalty which is good though. I cant wait till Im working on what I really want to but there are long years to come before that.

Another thing is if you work more than 8 hours without a 10-hour off-period, you get time and a half for the time beyond 8 hours, after 10 you're making double pay, and I think after 12 hours you're making 2.5x
So at $10 per hour, let's say you work from 4 PM through 1 AM (A common shift for closing managers when I was managing a grocery store). You'd have 8 paid hours, and a one hour unpaid break. If you started at 8 AM the next morning, you'd only have 7 hours between shifts, so from 8 AM though 10 AM, you'd get $15 per hour, then from 10 till 11 you'd get $20 per hour, then after that you'd go back to your regular pay. No, upper management was not thrilled whenever someone did that.
Sorry to jack the original idea of the thread. Super, please PM me if you're as interested in local labor laws as I apparently am.
