Well, it's the end of an era. The Jag (XJ40) has gone, replaced by an Audi - our first foreign car. However there is still one British Leyland relic left - my 94 M Rover 214 Si.
I really want to get rid of it, but it's not as straight forward as you might think. About two months ago I was driving back from Bristol on the Motorway with my dad, mum and brother all in the car when I noticed blue smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. We called out the RAC, and the patrol guy said that the head gasket had blown.
Now I thought about selling the car bit by bit on eBay, but then I realised that a) where am I going to store all of the parts and b) what do I do with the empty shell that I'm left with?
If I sold it privately, as is, does anybody know how much would it be worth, is it recommended?
These are the specs:
November 1994 M Rover 214 16v Sprint 3 door, metallic blue, grey cloth interior, 72K miles, 220 GTi six spoke alloy wheels with full size spare.

In the middle of the night, You and a buddy drive out to a lake in two different cars... then you push it into a lake. Next day, report it stolen.

j/k. Since I'm not British I have not clue, but parting it out will definately be the way to get more money, then sell the remnant to a junkyard or something.

LOL rolling around on the floor here - but no I can't do this 'cause it would only affect my insurance premium (and of those living in the area which isn't really fair).
A friend suggested selling the wheels only - as some boy racer would probably buy them.
Does anybody understand how the rating system on eBay works, do you have to reply every single message that you get? How do you sell something if you've never used eBay?
EDIT: You can't sell the remnants to a scrap (junk) yard because of d@mn EU legislation, where the manufactures take the car back for recycling. It must be in one piece, so this is an added problem as I'd have to pay the scrap dealer to take the car away!

Are there even any cliffs in the Midlands? Might have to drive to Wales to do that.

Yes there are cliffs in the midlands, though not very high. I doubt that I could take it to Wales as blue smoke billows out of the back and it overheats really quickly because the gasket's gone!
Yes MG Rover did a deal to take back old cars under the ELV thingy, but I don't wanna do that 'cause the car owes me money (under the ELV you pay nothing though), plus it could actually be repaired if somebody had the time and patience to do it themselves.

In the States, I know there are many charitable organinzations, like the bone marrow people who will take donated cars, sell them, and use the money for research. And it's a tax write off for you.

I reckon I need around 200-250 (mainly for the wheels) for it, I think that it's reasonable considering that it hasn't done many miles and has very little (microscopic) rust. Though it's only good for spares really.

It only goes to 95 and the new shape - plus it wouldn't really tell me how much it's worth with the blown gasket.
Does anybody know any Rover breakers that might be willing to take it?

Maybe I just miss them because I can't get them in the U.S, but come on, Smarties are definitely superior to M&M's.

yes they are; why does the mass produced candy in this country suck so much; or is this just another case of grass bein greener on the other side
