I hear ya. I'm really astonished at the number of seemingly normal people my age who read--and enjoy--that crap. I mean, seriously, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills or something.
I tried watching one of the movies babysitting one time, and I can honestly say I'd rather roll around ablaze in the middle of a busy intersection than force myself to sit through that again. Get with the program people.
well of course, everyone has their own opinion. and it looks like sometimes people believe their opinion should apply to everyone else one of my friends hates harry potter too, and most of my friends don't like star wars (i'm obsessed with star wars right now), but everyone's different

Well I've read tyhem all and I'm currently working on the last one. While the subject matter may or may not be appealing to some, what I find is the real genius of the story are three things:
1. Character development. The writer goes to great lengths to flesh out characters. even small or insignificant characters are described in enough depth that they form very clear pictures in your mind. It's dificult not to read these books and not feel like you know these characters.
2. POV. In many ways the story is told from manydifferent points of view, not just Harry's, which ,makes the story not quite so cut and dry.
3. Attention to detail. This writer has gone to grat lengths to create a very unique and detailed environment, and not only does she continue to build on it with every new book, but she binds her writtings and her characters to the limitations and charcteristics of the environment she has created.
That IMHO is the real appeal and genius of these stories.

Pretty much the same thing as anonms, i was at a school bookstore and the first one had just come out. The movies dont do any justice at all, i have never liked any of them.
Also i hate people that are only reading it so they can follow the hype not the story

i feel similarly about the movie, but i personally enjoy the books, im surprisedi like the books and not the movies, i think its because the movies stop you from using YOUR imagination in imagining some of these surreal things

The movies..... X______X
I can't wait for the 5th one. Try cramming over 800 pages of stuff into 2 hours of cinema.
I didn't like how they changed a lot of the stuff in th 3rd movie.

The thing about these books is that I think it really got children into reading. Which is the real genius of the books to me.
