Default biggest moon since 1993
Tonight, March 19th 2011, the moon will be around 14% bigger in size than "normal". Due the fact that the moon is closest to Earth in 18 years at a distance of 356,577 km.

It will be seen at a little over 7pm Dutch time, that's 6pm for UK.

Yeah i'll be out on the front garden with the telescope tonight. It was pretty big and bright last night too. I'm also going to find Saturn because I think it's possible enough.

here it is..

http://earthsky.org/tonight/march-co.../11mar19_300-2

Thats how it should be tonight.

Hopefully you can also shoot a picture?

I have a very very cheap telescope, but I think I'll retract it from the attick and set it up outside. If I d it now it can also get customed to the temperature so it will focus better.

To be honest my telescope's not the most expensive either. I'd like to take a picture, but I have no mounting thing for my camera so it's unlikely to work through the telescope unfortunately.

I'm going to try it without use of the ocular lense , the hole that exists should be somewhat good enough for my sony dsc-p100 lens (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0402/04021105sony4dcs.asp)

We'll see if it works or not.

Anyway, good planet hunting tonight! [thumbup]

My telescope I bought second hand and was about 80 Euro. and looks like this one:

Yeah , that's a pity. Alot of places deal with too much light for seeing stars and nightly events.

Luckely I live in the east of Holland surrounded by woods and live in a small town. When it is clear I can see the milkyway, but by eyes have to be adapted to the dark.

When I work early shift , I leave home around 5:20am. When it is dark in winter months I see many many stars when walking to my car on the parking lot. Always amazes me to see so many stars.. I love them. [yes]

edit for Shook:
NIce photo, but I often see the moon in a more blueish white than yellowish. It depends on alot of factors I guess, but I like it when it shines out bright white light.

-edit2- Did I just misread Ninja7? haha

I think its probably the white balance settings on the camera which give it that colour, it was actually bright white.

I just have a Celestron Astromaster 76 I think it is. Also a decent pair of Pentax binoculars which i'll give a whirl.

It's a bit low in the sky still though. Houses in the way. Bit of cloud too unfortunately.

you and I are in same boat. However if I walk through my little alley And I come on parking lot I see the Moon. There's a lamppole in the way , so I wait till I see it raise abov the roof tops.

It goes rather quick so of and on I walk outside/look through window.

My telescope is chilled so I won't have any air turbulance inside it.

-shares with Kyros a cognac to enjoy and to keep warm, being in the cold

Did not look any different to it usually does here, just nice and red a bit big when rising, but was a bit cloudy to and went smaller quite quickly.

Lovely night out though, nice and warm at 9c or though I would prefer it to have been below zero as prefer nights like those when out, long as it's not below -15c feels nice.
