So, I am thinking about folding again for FM.
Though, have a lot jumped ship to anything FM user sub forum? What is that if so?

I am about points, Im honest. Was way back when back in the day when it first started up.
So, I what could I get started this in PPD?

Phenom II X4 965
Athlon 3800+ X2
Pentium 4 3.06GHz w/ HT
Intel Atom D525 (x4) *Really an AMD E-350, but I'd imagine Atom has better estimates)
Radeon 4890

if you have a single PS3 it would prolly get about 2x the PPD as all that lol.

I dunno where everyone has gone but I have both my PS3s folding for team 62 24/7 for....I dunno. Some reason. For cures I guess. I figure I rarely use the damn things, I might as well.

Well it might of been a bit of an exaggeration, but PS3s are extremely good at it. You might get 1:1 ish compared to a PS3 with all that, maybe a bit more. GPUs are really good at it too, I have no idea how the 4890 will do in particular though.

Nvidia GPU's and I7's are where it's at now, that older stuff won't even be worth it. You can probably get 5K a day out of the 965 running SMP and maybe 2500 a day with the 4890. Check with sites that have highly active folding teams, they might be able to give some numbers on the older and slower stuff.

I think they're all over at OC3D, but if you're doing it as a "competition" to get your self some points in a pissing contest, I'd keep the money you'll be spending on electricity.

At a vague guess...

Phenom II X4 965 ~6000
Athlon 3800+ X2 ~1800
Pentium 4 3.06GHz w/ HT ~600
Intel Atom D525 (x4) ~1200
Radeon 4890 ~3500 (even newer ATI/AMD GPU's don't get much more than this due to the fubar client/support)

PS3's only get about ~900 PPD last time I checked btw...

Nvidia GPU's and I7's are where it's at now
Indeed, especially i7's, I can hit nearly 30k PPD on my 2600K @ 4.6Ghz folding SMP2 -bigadv

Used to fold for FM, but the client support overall for SMP and GPU isn't great, you need to do a fair bit of setting up. I must be getting on bit I just cba with it, I do enough as it is for games in general.

The new 6.30 SMP2 client for Windows is great btw, doesn't even need MPI or Deino anymore, it just runs natively now (plus it's obviously ridiculously quick!).

It's just a console .exe, no need to install it, just stick it in a folder somewhere, set it up with a -configonly -smp shortcut initially, then just remove the -configonly from the shortcut, piece of cake, it couldn't be much simpler.

If for any other reason, it's still a great stability test for a CPU and your system, if you've got a rig that can fold overclocked for a couple of days at 100%, then it's pretty damn stable!

I'll check out the SMP CPU client, that does sound far more convenient to use compared to a year ago or so.

[yes] Anyone really interested in folding should come check us out.

Also, GPU tracker has made folding ridiculously easy. It works for both CPU and GPU.
