Got my first handgun.

I know that everyone has their opinions on firearms (especially handguns) but I purchased for primarily range use, but as well as having something at home for just in case. I don't plan to make this thread political or a battle of nations on standards of living so I ask that you don't.

I will say however how unexpectedly easy it was to purchase. Within 30 minutes of arriving to pick it up I was out the door with it. Filled out one form, put my signature in one place, they checked my drivers license with the state authority online, cleared and sold. I still have to apply for a carry permit though if I ever plan to carry it on my person in public.

I bought a brandnew Colt 1911 .45 Rail Gun. (Rail gun being the name they chose for the fact that the gun has a tactical rail on it for lights/laser sights [which mine is on order.]) It cost me $1089 out the door with a free box of 50 rounds. (ball ammo)

Here is a pretty crappy picture from my blackberry storm. I plan to have a better picture this weekend when I find my missing nikon point and shoot. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/3760/colt1911rg.jpg

I cleaned it and oiled it last night in preperation for taking it to the range hopefully today after work but if not surely this weekend. Which I will share my experience of shooting it on here as well.

I just had to share...I am pretty much in love with the gun =p.

Out of interest, how easy is it to get a carry permit?

I don't know anything about guns other than that looks nice. Which isn't really the point of a gun lol.

It takes about two weeks, some finger printing for government and state records, a deeper background check, and $150-$200 in fee's. That is about it from my recent research on the subject.

I couldn't stop holding it and looking at it last night cause of the coolness factor.

I think it's amazing that a design practically 100 years old is still going strong.

And that is what has had me so infatuated with the model and lead me to purchasing a 1911 frame, especially a colt. Anniversary is next year...many makers have shown some amazing anniversary editions. Gold plated, silver plated... you name it.

ROYMANgo 06-18-2010 08:49 PM

If you´re not a Dictator or at least a high end drug dealer, you have no right to have a gold/silver plated weapon.

Chr0n1c,
Although i have a soft spot for the Glock i think i'd probably have done the same as you. Patriotic and a piece of history. As Robert De Niro says in 'Ronin', "It's served my country well".

Holy **** JB those are sexy guns!

Glocks are amazing, you can fill them with piss and sand...and they will still shoot as if you got it new in box.

Seeing as this is your first handgun, word of advice, don't piss on your gun. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif

I like the basic design and the machining on any mechanical device - guns included.

If you haven't already done so, enrole in a safe handling course at the range - guns are like fire, treat them with respect and you won't get burned.

Ditto on that!

Omid - That's a beautiful gun man, I love the 1911s!

DEFINITELY check out the SureFire X400! It's a combo light & laser, and they have a comfy remote switch to fit on the grip of a 1911. I have one that I swap around, including on my Kimber 1911s. [yes]

If you're still looking for an AR, let me know when the time comes... I may be selling off a pair of Noveskes soon. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/cool1.gif

I'm considering grabbing a Sig Mosquito (.22LR) for plinking/play... Now that I finally have a place to call home in MD, I'm wanting to get most of my shooting gear up here and start going to the range >= once a week. [surrender]

I'll do my best not to put any body fluids into it. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

That is indeed a very nice setup, Only saw it in black though =( I want silver.

An AR is def in the future, not sure when but sometime this year.

Beautiful gun. Wish I lived in a civilized state.

That 1911 isn't really a carry gun, unless you own a ranch though...

Carry is something much slimmer and smaller.

For me, wouldn't be .45ACP either. Nice on a big 1911, but a bit hot on small light guns.

UFJon 06-19-2010 08:18 AM

When I got my CCW about 6 years ago it was under $40.

For the most part, I'd agree... Some people(taller and/or larger) are fine carrying bigger guns though, and 1911's are slimmer than a lot of guns since they're single stacked, it's not really the muzzle that's hard to conceal, it's the grip.

I'd say for a carry gun, carry the largest caliber you can comfortably conceal & comfortably control firing as well. For me, I went with a CZ 2075 RAMI BD, it's available in both .40 and 9mm, I went with 9mm for ammo reasons, and I already have a .45 (S&W M&P):

I'd have to agree with you.

It's why I like my XD-9. Easy to carry and conceal.
