Default F1 point system for 2010
http://www.formula1.com/news/headlin.../12/10279.html

Under the new system, the race winner will take 25 points, with 20 and 15 being awarded for second and third places respectively. The next seven finishers will score 10, 8, 6, 5, 3, 2 and 1 point respectively. It will replace the current structure of the top eight drivers scoring 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point respectively. What do you think? Those are some huge jumps between the first 3 spots.

i think its better than the last system, especially considering more cars on the track next year.

This system will only work if you have at least two competitive teams. If its like last year, this system would make F1 even more boring.

Meh... I would have kept the old system but given winner 12 points.

This has come out of the blue - hadn't even heard of it being proposed - and this short notice?
IMO, it would have been better as 20, 16, 12, 10, etc.
As it is, a team with a good startt o the season will pretty much rule out most of the opposition in short order! Anyone care to work out what the points would have been for this year, using that system?

I've been saying for a while that a bonus point for fastest lap would be a good idea, as sometimes a top driver/team has a problem at the start which effectively rules them out of the points - but if they've a chance of grabbing a 'fastest lap' point, they may make the effort.
One for pole may be a good idea, as there'll be no fueling stratagies so effectively they're on an even footing.

As some have said, winning should be more rewarding. Old system, but 12 for a win would be good. Although i like the idea of top 10 finishers getting points.

Also, there needs to be two dirt tracks per season (in which the F1 cars are fitted with knobby tires), and three races per season in which the pit crews must perform intoxicated...

They're going to have ex F1 drivers as part of the stewards. Sounds like a goo idea; maybe we'll see less of some the barmy decisions there have been in the past.

Little known fact...I built the first version of formula1.com in 1998. The company I worked for owned it and ran it. It was based on HTML with perl scripts, a bit of javascript and a billion server-side includes.

Race days were hell. We used to watch the race on german satellite TV, type the minute by minute commentary into hotdog html editor (or something like that) and a CRON job would sync the file to the remote server every 60 second.

If anyone remembers the original site, those 3D icons at the top of the page (that looking back were so simple) took our art department weeks to do.

I remember formula1.com from about 1999/2000 onwards because I stole some of it to make my own website at college.

It will have been the same site. I left at the start of 1999. It's amazing how much simpler the latest technology has made editing sites like that these days.
