Help !! 404 Error ?
For some reason i keep getting a wierd 404 error on a lot of sites lately,
the website loads normally and then almost instantly jumps to a "The page cannot be found" 404 Error ?? The url of the message always seems to be something with http://www.mybrowserbar.com/cgi/errors.cgi Does anybody have a clue what´s wrong ? I´ve had Spybot check and CCleaner but it´s still the same. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo.../confused1.gif |
Do you have any Toolbars installed?
Have you tried a different browser? What are the more recent programs that you have installed? Did you check proxy settings on your browser? |
try start->cmd-> ipconfig /flushdns

@ Wizisme
No toolbars Yes i´m using firefox, problem also happens with IE (but on my 2nd PC, same progs, it doesn´t) I haven´t installed anything lately (for a while tbh) I don´t know how to check the proxy settings Quote:

In Firefox, Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Settings
Is "No Proxy" checked? Also, browse to \system32\drivers\etc and open the "hosts" file in notepad. Copy and Paste the entire contents of the file here. |

here´s the hosts file: # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost |
Interesting problem. You could download the Hijackthis program and look for any suspicious entries. Just don't mess around with anything you're not sure about obviously...

Let me pontificate this for a minute... |
Ok, a searchy on the webz, found this:
http://www.freespycheck.com/malware-...erbar-com.html It attaches to these executables: searchsettings.exe, widgihelper.exe, msiexec.exe, arpproducticon.exe I have never used the remover software, so I can not bless it. It could be more garbageware disguised as AV software. |
Try running a scan with Malwarebytes. http://malwarebytes.org/
Some hits on Google point to a pdfforge toolbar. Do you see that in add/remove programs? |
So had run that freespycheck prog Wizisme posted, without any lukc (took friggin 6 hours !!)
Nothing found,... Now after reading elgiacomo´s post i searched for pdfforge and nope no prog installed, then just out of interest i did a system search for pdfforge and whamma found a few entries, no prog but a txt file here a dll there, etc. I deleted them all, tryed again no go. Did a fresh reboot and POW !! everything works again http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif Thanks for all the help guys !!! |

/smacks DuranXL left and right with a rock the size of Roseanne Barr´s ass. I think you misunderstood, Of course, i´ve had hundreds of reboots since this problem started happening. But only after deleting all files (which were all over my hard drives) that had something pdfforge like in it´s titel and then rebooting did it work. |
Glad you got it sorted out.
I looked at that freespycheck link which is for ParetoLogic AV, and what I could find online, it doesn't look good at all. I would recommend completely removing that from your system. Not sure if it's a virus cloaked as an anti-virus program, or just a really bad AV... Highly recommend installing Malwarebytes AND/or SUPERantispyware. |
