Default RC car nitro?
I used to own a nitro(glow) rc car and when the engine went i sold it.
So i a miss it and wish to have the same the fun, my memmory is very hazey but i think it had a 0.12 30000rpm engine 1/10scale with 1 gear.

For £150 would a HPI car fit the bill? i love tarmac cars but a fun quality buggy would do[thumbup]

Depends on what you want out of it. HPI does make some nice starter trucks, but in 1/10th scale electric is the way to go. Power, runtime, durability...etc so many advantages.

Electric is making strides in 1/8th scale as well.

For your budget, I'd suggest the MT2. Its a well built truck, AWD, and fairly lightweight. It'll do well on concrete or off-road. Not as durable as 1/8th scale but it'll still go good and a good .18 like an OS .18TZ will make it scream.

I'm only "slightly" experienced with RC.

The MT2 looks interesting and the new model has the newer G3.0 engine and 3.01cc.
The last time me and friends raced our Nitro`s on the local tramac track the electrics car where superior mainly schumachers IIRC but for some reason i just enjoy having a proper engine[thumbup]

We are a little crazy.

If pure speed is your game, you can't beat a traxxas Jato 3.3. 65mph truck out of the box.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyX-Z7aij5M

Or a massive engine in a 1/8th buggy. 60mph, but with insane traction/handling, and built like a tank. 1/8th buggies and truggies make the best bashers in my opinion. Bar non the toughest RC platform on the planet.

I know its probably more expensive than you want, but you cannot go wrong with a Traxxas Revo as a basher. These trucks have the most suspension travel i've ever seen and can also be built to race as well. Tons of aftermarket support. Infact, so much aftermarket support its possible to build an entire Revo out of non-traxxas parts!

The Traxxis is out of my price range, the MT2 is stretching the budget aswell but if i can stop drinking for a while i may treat myself to a MT2

dont bother with nitro if you arent willing to learn how to properly tune then and run them in.
sounds like you probably didnt the first time.

go 2stroke petrol (fairly expansive) or electric

I do this for a hobby and I found that if a race track is 1.5+ hours away from you then don't bother with a race spec truck. Its boring as hell without a race track and its even more boring when the season is over. I have a short course race truck (Traxxas Slayer 3.3 with lots of susp upgrades and motor), a cheap monstertruck i got for 180 new (Associated MMGT3.0), and two small x-ray 1/16th nitro vehicles (truggy and car). None of the them are anywhere near as fun as the monster truck. I took the slayer to a track and tuned the suspension. Changed the shocks, shock oil, spring rates, added p3 rockers, sway bars, CVDs, new tires/rims, and new engine (OS .21tm). It was fun at the track but the track is so far that the weather is different down there... about 10-15F HOTTER.... So I got a monstertruck (mmgt3.0) and I LOVED IT... In the 5months it was operational I used up 7gallons of fuel. It's still working but the transmission is shot thanks to the reverse gear failing. So now I'm convering my slayer into a revo (I bought a revo 3.3 roller on ebay for 40 bucks) and I'm going to use the OS .21tm until it goes and replace it with an Axial .28 Spec 1S (It's the Nitro star k4.6 which is a bullet proof motor with gobs of torque.. cheap too!).
Get a monster truck if a track is too far... you will love it. All I do is jump off ramps/hills and get huge air! The part I love the most is landing.

HPI Savage 4.6 x = awesome. I like the revo more but for the price... No thanks.
Don't bother with the MT2, I've heard issues with the differentials. HPI is well known for the Savage. I've tried their hellfire and I was not impressed. The Savage is the only thing I would buy from HPI... oh and the Baja! If you want a parking lot truck then get the jato 3.3... It's only 30-40 bucks more than the MT2. Dunno how much more it is in europe. The Jato is great fun! Especially on nice smooth asphalt/tarmac with bald tires! Drift galore!

I prefer 1/8th buggies for bashers. Extremely fast, insane acceleration, braking and handling abilities with all of the durability of a monster truck. With the right set of tires like a set of Proline Badlands you can cut through any terrain no problem. Or you can drop the suspension on the 1/8th buggy and go rally or road with it no problem.

thats why I like the revo the most out of all of the monster trucks. Its the easier one to get race ready (and a good racer too!). Man we meet up every friday/sat during spring/summer and some of the guys show up with their FG monster trucks and some even have nitrous set up on their engines... HUGE.. FAST... crazy hehehe. One guy even has an fg sportline Porsche GT.

It was the cheapest nitro kit they had, i think i run it in properly the guy at the shop said let it tick over using 2 tanks of glow then afterwards very slowy build the revs.
It did see alot of use and with it being cheap im suprised the 30,000rpm engine lasted that long, i was always playing with the carb but it always ran rich, but i only ever replaced the air filter, tires and clutch shoes.

Durability is the most important thing for me shame the traxxis and savage are a bit pricey.

If it was a smaller .12 it likely reved to about 40,000rpm or more. The big blocks don't tend to rev all that much as they make tons more torque.

For instance the race spec .21 small blocks make about 50oz/in torque, while the race spec .21 big blocks make almost 80oz/in torque! And they rev just as high. The reason for this is the larger crankshaft, carb, and ports on the sleeve allowing tons more airflow.

Looking through this thread made me impulse buy![thumbup].

I've got a electric Tamiya TT01 and was looking for something a bit more fun to play with so I just went and got myself this -

Its a nice truck, they claim it does 38mph + and it does seem that way. It cost me £200 from Antics - http://www.rccarsandtrucks.co.uk/564_1_105176455.html

This is my first nitro and it is taking sometime to get right, but its all a learning curve and good fun [thumbup]

grats on the purchase! Just wished you would have asked :P The Nitro Sport is indeed a solid truck. Problem is there are other trucks far faster/advanced in its price range. BUT Traxxas makes quality products and almost every local hobby shop carries parts for them PLUS they have great tech support and an online community willing to help you out with questions.
Actually scratch that price note... i checked the european prices and its far different from usa. Good purchase.

I've been using it for around 3 hours now and its taken a hell of a bashing about already[shocked].

I cant seem to get one thing right though, I've set the car up as stated in the M.I's but the car seems to stutter/goes flat when accelerating fast. But it only seems to do it every now and again, so its super hard to adjust the high speed screw to sort the problem out.

Any ideas?

Does it start to stutter when accelerating from a stopped position?
If so then your low speed needle might need to be adjusted. Traxxas engines are very sensative/annoying to tune but they do run well and are pretty reliable. I've had a 3.3 blow up on me but I think it was my fault. heehee.. Some foreign object (small piece of asphalt) got into the carb and then tore up the inner ball bearing for the crankshaft. Got it replaced for free by traxxass!! Couldnt find the asphalt but I found a lot of small bbs :P

Only sometimes it stutters from start but thats only at WOT, it mainly happens when im sort of at half throttle and then going to WOT again it stutters a bit. .

I've had a super scan of the net and it does seem that the LSN is what is causing the problem, its running to lean. I'll try adjusting 1/8 turn to richen the mix.
