Default Not sure what to do with this bird WARNING graphic.
Uncle was meant to kill this today, he keeps pigeons and male pigeons are known to sometimes kill the smaller ones.

Thing is this bids only a week off from being able to fly and feed it's self. It is very strong, doesnt seem in pain, but it has a hole in the back of its head where you can see the skull/brain.

Should I let my uncle kill it when he gets back or let him av a few days away from the other pigeons with me feeding and watering it? I havent got aclue how to, but i rescue chickens so thought id let him have a chance as he seems a real fighter!

im an avid animal protector and all for free range and organic this and that, but i actually think this guy should be put down, i dont think its something that can heal.

take him to a vet, see what they say. you always got to do whats in the best interest of the animal. he could get a nasty infection thatd cause him to suffer.

If he was a week younger and not so lively i wouldnt hesitate, but he's full of corn, and ver strong, i was going to clean the wound later with some warm water and then powder it up.

If you can actually see part of his brain, put him down. If it's just his skull, give him a chance. Clean up the wound and watch for infection and I imagine it will be fine. You may want to talk to a vet though and get his/her opinion.

yeah i get what youre saying, if i were in your position, id have a tough time deciding his fate, but seriously, thats one nasty wound. atleast get him checked out properly by a vet.

Avian vets do not care where I'm from, i had some chickens that needed vets attention and the response i got from them was "its only a chicken"

When the wound is cleaned tomorrow i will investigate the wound fruther. If any signs of infection arrise i will have to buckle him.

Vet first. Try to save it at least.

If all is lost, put it down and eat it.

Sometimes the most humane thing to do is to put an animal down.

It might not "look" like it's in pain, but how do pigeons express pain? It's more likely you are just not picking up on it's signals. The best thing to do is to quickly snap it's neck, this bird will not make a recovery and lead a normal life.

I hate and have disgust for any animal cruelty or suffering but I think this is the best way to sort this problem out. End the pain and suffering for this pigeon.

I went down to snap his neck and my uncle had cleaned him and put him back, the mothers preotecting him and feeding him on the ledge outside the coop, hopefully the big scumbag **** will leave him alone... couple weeks he will be flying about! I know he will make it!
