Default What is a good first sportbike for a chick that is 4' 11" ?
What is a good first bike for a chick that is 4' 11" ? Price range is around $2000 if i have to do work to it and no more than $3000 if it is ready to rock

I know that no matter what i get for her it will have to be lowered

she has currently drives a manual car so she understands how clutches work...

she also understands how the shift pattern works on a bike as well

I was going to get her a buel 500cc bike but she told me, "There's not a chance in hell that I will ride a chopped in half POS Harley wanna be sport bike..."

She says she wants something sexy... like a Yamaha

I mean seriously...

Do you really need any help telling a 4'11" chick who knows how to work a clutch and wants something sexy, what she should really be riding?

Aren't ZXR400 bikes both tiny and sports?

All manufacturers have their pig-ugly models, and Yamaha is no exception.

Well starting from 250cc upwards...

TZR 250
KR-1S 250
NSR250
RVF400R
ZXR400
The OP is in Kansas so stink-wheels might not be an option. Even if they are though, I certainly wouldn't be recommending those 250cc bikes to a total novice: some of them aren't made anymore (and haven't been for years), the KR-1S is a hand-grenade waiting to go off and the TZR isn't much better in that respect either. The sensible choice is the RVF400R but I would suggest the CBR400R instead.

I made a suggestion for the OP to research and see if it would fit his requirements. I did not state that the GS500 is the only bike... Your smart ass bullshit has not contributed to the discussion.
I don't care for a gs500 and I agree with you.. but at the very least offer some suggestion as to what the OP could consider.... you ass.

Well im aware of that, the OP never mentioned anything about a new bike, anyway i was quite fond of the 'hand-grenade waiting to go off' style the 250's offered

So was I - right up to the very moment my first RG250 self-denoted, firing bits of cylinder head into the petrol tank...as I was barrelling up the M56. [surrender]

Sorta off-topic, but since it concerns my wife who is a 4'11" chick wanting a sport bike what exactly DO you recommend for a beginner? I'm not big into bikes. Never looked at them. How much get up and go does a normal 250CC model have?

I don't plan to buy one now, but I was thinking when she gets ready to graduate from college in a couple years I could get her one as a gift.

Depends very much on the model but even a pokey Honda CB250 can still accelerate from 0-to-60 mph in under 8 seconds. Compare that to Honda's CBR250RR, which can do it in around 5 seconds and top 100mph, or something like Suzuki's RGV250R. Pretty much all bikes are just quick off the mark .

I'd personally recommend something like a Honda CG125 to begin with - yes it's slow and small, but it'll give you a thorough grounding in the basics of handling a motorbike and it's very light, so if you do drop it, it's piece of cake to pick it back up. After that, you can step it up to something like a 400cc or 500cc quite easily.

I think the height issue needs to be addressed first and foremost. The average seat height on a sportbike is around 32". A girl who's 4'11" is almost certainly going to have an inseam that's several inches shorter than that.

She may have to settle for something a big lower. Maybe a nice cruiser or something.
