From what I gather, this sounds like a man who had lost just about everything dear to him and just snapped. Figured he'd take it out at the royal family. Today's the kind of day you know you can get close to them, and it doesn't seem like he was bothered much with what would happen afterwards.

A bit like the Iraqi shoethrower, perhaps: a lot of resentment is built up, he needs an outlet, an opportunity presents itself and he takes it.

The whole thing is terrible, unbelievable. Watching that car go by and those people slide by, it makes me feel the same way I felt when I saw the second plane hit on 9/11. It's something you just can't fully grasp, the why's and how's. A tough day for everyone.

You say it as if we should feel sympathy for the *******. You can hype it up all you want, but he is a cold blooded murderer. Because of his in ability to deal with his problems, he destroyed the lives of several other families.

The shoe thrower was able to make a point without destroying INNOCENT people's lives. Stop trying to defend this *******..

It is a tough day for the people killed and hurt. Hopefully it will be an even worse life for the moron driving the car.

In many other countries they get one like this every week and it's filled with explosives as well.

Really sad occurrences.

Its like the people that decide to kill themselves by jumping infront of a train. Fine - you want to top yourself - just don't inconvienence / injure the rest of us in the proces...

Sadly in this case I guess we'll never find out WHY he did what he did.

Why not?
Because it's going to be hard getting it out of him, you know, being dead and all

Surprised at the car he used... I'm not sure what he was expecting to accomplish with a Suzuki Swift if he had managed to hit the bus.

I don't normally advocate the death penalty, I am in fact completely against it. But if anyone deserved to die, it would be this guy. What a waste, the guy plowed through a crowd and killed 5(?) people to do what, give the Queen whiplash? This is one of those things that just makes me mad enough to spit.

I don't believe he's a cold blooded murderer in the sense he just plowed through dozens of people for the kick of it. I'm guessing this was a very broken man. No, that doesn't make it right and that doesn't make it any better. I'm just trying to understand what would drive someone to make a desperate attempt like this, and I think that's a better approach to it than to just call him all sorts of things and be done with it. I understand your reaction and I agree he deserves every bit of resentment - really, I do. But that's just not my main concern.

Likewise, I feel very sad for the people who were the first on the spot to perform CPR / treat injuries / look after the people who were lying on the street. When I see the videos and imagine they're desperately trying to help people who were going to die or were already dead, on a day like Queensday, that just breaks my heart.

Exactly what i thought.. people call in an "attack"..but even if he did hit the bus, it would probably not even hurt the bus..he must have been totally sick in his head.
Horrible thing

Funny, beccause that is EXACTLY what he did!

I'm guessing this was a very broken man. No, that doesn't make it right and that doesn't make it any better.
Something we agree on..

I'm just trying to understand what would drive someone to make a desperate attempt like this, and I think that's a better approach to it than to just call him all sorts of things and be done with it. Why should we treat him any better than the scum on our shoes? We all have the freedom to make choices, regardless of how bad our lives are. He chose to kill people in cold blood; people he did not know or care about. He is a vile murderer, no matter how much you want to apologize for him.

Likewise, I feel very sad for the people who were the first on the spot to perform CPR / treat injuries / look after the people who were lying on the street. When I see the videos and imagine they're desperately trying to help people who were going to die or were already dead, on a day like Queensday, that just breaks my heart.
I won't disagree there. It had to have been horrible for the people on the scene, and I hope they are given counseling (should they want it).

Default Car drives through crowd during Queens day.
April 30th is Queens Day in Holland, a day where the Queen and Royal family visit a town or city to meet the local people, participates in little games that are set up.. etc.. It's a national holiday for all. Always a fun day, untill now.

See some footage here:
