Default GM cuts Pontiac!
Well, I've just flicked on MSNBC and bang! The news is GM have killed Pontiac.

So those of you on the boards wanting a G8, you better go to your local Pontiac dealer and snap up a deal. Well I assume it means the G8 will no longer be around. Which makes me wonder what will happen to Holden in Australia, The $1 billlion export car will no longer be exported to the US. Perhaps they will keep the G8 around?

Anyhow, Pontiac is a big brand to cut.[shocked]

Well they were saying that Buick is more profitable. It's a brand established in China and the States and on paper it's a better brand to keep and they make more markup on the cars.

It's a shame, I didn't mind the Pontiac brand. The first and only car I've driven in the States is a Pontiac.

Didn't the gov't promise to support warranties?

GM will more than likely honor new and existing warranties for the duration of their service contracts

I'd imagine the warranty is all good. All the GM cars would share common parts. So servicing isn't going to be a problem I wouldn't imagine. Though don't expect a new G8 if you write your car off.

If your mate has one of the last Pontiac's, that's going to be a special car!

Sounds like a good plan, since they haven't made anything in over 20 years worth a crap anyway..........................................

Good Day

If they would've cut Buick, what would all the old people drive? A real luxury car?

GM cars can be serviced at ANY GM dealership regardless of the nameplate on the car.

As for Pontiac being cut, it is as a regular production brand. GM will be keeping the Pontiac nameplate around for special cars. So while the brand may be dead, you may see a Pontiac Solstice or a G8 around for a while. Pontiac may end up becoming a one car make much like Lamborghini was for a long time.

You should see my Uncle's 1965 Convertible Pontiac GTO. You would be eating those words.

Here's a taste of it.

You wouldn't believe the number of awards they have gotten for that car.

Very imaginative comparison.

They still have too many brands, the would need to cut it down to 3 (Premium, Quality, Cheap) and start selling Opel/Vauxhaul/Holden as their quality cars in the US.

that's because it is...

it's sold in china as a buick

GM needs to re-invent buick in the US as a more mainstream brand and not an old farts car.

They might as well become considering they make more tractors than they make cars.
