This is all madness. I vote that film-makers use unlimited, wraparound aspect ratios and unlimited resolution so that I don't have to see any borders on the movie. I should be able to sit inside a virtual sphere with the film broadcast around me in all directions. Anyone who doesn't allow me to enjoy a movie on the interior of my sphere screen is just being selfish.

Have you been the the omnimax theater in the Museum of science and industry? They have a movie theater just like you described and its been there as far as I can remember? ( I'm 24 and I used to go there in elementary school)

We are the customers. The film makers should be catering for our needs.
We are consumers of creative content. We should be content with the content that is created or create our own.

And they do, just not to hyper sensitive frame rate nitpickers. [rofl]

Default Widescreen rant
Ok, so for a few years we've had widescreen TV's and Monitors. WHY the hell can't directors and producers of films stick to one damned size to film in. When we had 4:3 tv's I dealt with the black bars because I like widescreen everything.[thumbup] In this day and age they(the movie people) should set one standard. I'm sick of the black lines even on widescreen.[cursing][cursing][cursing]

Makes a mockery of 1920x1080 resolution doesnt it. The film industry doesnt even use the full 1080 pixel height!!

This angers me as well. It would be nice if they could just stick to one standard, but they would probably moan and complain that it would hinder their creative abilities or something ludicrous like that. [rolleyes]

Films are going so widescreen now that they will have to start calling it slitty vision! I prefer to view films in the full 16:9 ratio. OK I lose the sides of the image, but all the action happens in the middle anyhow.

I wonder what the most natural aspect ratio would be for human eyes?

They do have set sizes. Either 1.85:1 or 2.35. Please don't tell me you want that as a monitor, enough people bitch about 16:9 being too wide over 16:10.

No, really they aren't. You're just now noticing it.

I've always hated hollywood's 2.35:1 aspect ratio. I've been ranting about this for years. I also hate hollywoods 24 fps standard but thats a different topic.

*facepalm* are all paintings the same aspect ratio? It's a matter of creative license. If a cinematographer or director wants their movie "wider", then why not?

Paintings are far different from movies dammit. There needs to be some kind of standard. 16:10 and 16:9 are so close that it doesn't even matter. Everything else is bullshit. Sure I want to see it the way that it's meant to be, but enough is enough.

But why should artists be forced into a set canvas? If they want their movie to be wide, why not? Because you've bought a 16:9 screen everybody should tailor their art so that none of its space is "wasted"? Would it be equally unreasonable to make a black & white film? I mean you've paid for a colour TV, should all artists then be forced into using those colours?
