Default Does anybody use a Large LCD TV as a PC monitor?
It seems to get a decent 24+" monitor your looking at £300 so why not use a 1080p LCD monitor

40" 1080p's can be had for around £500 and you get the benfit of being able to watch TV pip without any extra hardware.

Im sure they would be great for games but what are they like for web browsing and "work"?

I use my 46" hdtv as my PC monitor without any problems. The only thing i did do was increase the font size so that it was comfortable to read text from 7' away. Obviously it's great for gaming too!

I use my 40in 1080p TV as a monitor quite often. I also have a little TV tray table for my keyboard/mouse and sit about 4ft away when using it. Works really well and looks awesome. I do game quite a bit on it too without any major issues. Supposedly my TV has a tiny bit of input lag though, so quick reflex shooters aren't as snappy as on some smaller LCD's. I haven't touched the text settings, but I use Win7 beta, which automatically scales text in web browsers.

Overall, I am quite pleased!

I use a 56in 1080p DLP tv with my htpc. I have no problems since I run it at 720p at all times until I watch blu-ray.. then I bump it to 1080p

Technically, I think that a display without a TV tuner is considered a monitor.

With that said, I use my 42" at 1920 x 1080 resolution, but it is WAY TOO hard to read text.

why is that? is the text too small, or blurry?

WAY too small. Perhaps it is my eye sight, or perhaps it is the fact I am 8 feet away, but yeah, too hard to see.

I had a 37" and am currently using a 42" and I have the opposite problem, text is too big [surrender] (1080p from 4-5 ft). Aside from the awkward text I love it. Though the text thing did force my hand to buy a secondary smaller monitor.

Im currently using my Sony 40" 1080p TV as my monitor with a DVI to HDMI cable, when i set it to 1360x768 in turns into a 26" picture which is pretty sharp and can be used when sitting fairly close and i switch to 1920x1080 when needed
For long hours of desktop/internet or competitve online FPS i would still recommend a proper PC monitor though.

I did but now I use my projector, I find gaming to be much improved on a larger screen and text no problem.

Also use a 40" LCD as a monitor for my PC downstairs and a trick I use for the text problem online is to hold down "CTRL" then scroll my mouse wheel and the text then increases or decreases in size, so I can change text size instantly to suit the page I'm reading. [thumbup]
