not really no. ironically i had to go pick up some friends who were too drunk to drive. which made me think that it would be nice to have a drink... but crave like a cigarette, no.

My father was a bit of an alcoholic and he stopped for two weeks for a bet, no worries - then put his winnings on the bar and drank it with his mates.

It may be more of a test if you can drink half a glass of beer, or whatever, and put it down and leave it.

If you can stop with no issues then you are not an alchoholic, but rather a binge drinker which can actually be worse. A binge drinker will consume large amounts of alcohol in a short period ( for a night, weekend etc ) and this puts extreme stress on the kidneys and can potentially kill you from a night's drinking.

when i drink... well i do drink. that much is true. however i think a week with no urge to drink is a good sign. and if anything, my body is more messed up from the drugs of my passed.

I've always looked at it that if you drink casually and are not doing it because you want to catch a buzz, but rather like your beverage than your ok.. to a degree. If you drink everyday though and consumption keeps on going up then yeah .. you'd be on the road to eventual alcaholism. You'd just not realize it until one day you sat up and thought OH

Sadly I am - he was a hotelier and there were three bars in the hotel so it is perhaps not so surprising he succumbed to alcoholism as it's a know occupational hazard.
After closing most nights (10:30 PM in those days, IIRC) he and some friends (including the local Police) would continue drinking into the early hours of the morning.
Also not surprisingly, he lost the lot in the end.

I would put it this way. Alcoholism is sort of an addiction, an addiction could be said, is an external factor replacing a natural body behaviour (some drugs> endorphin production) inducing you into dependancy on said factor.

If your body is dependant then it's most likely that when you stop ingestion, you'll feel withdrawal symptoms (not only cravings!).

So in summary if your "Not alcohol for a week" scheme has altered your behavior, sense of well being, mood, physiological functions, etc... you might want to start laying off the stuff pronto[yes]
