Default Quit smoking, now how long does it take ...
To feel genuinely happy again?

I used to be happy pretty much 24/7, an "always looking on the bright side of life" kinda guy, but now I'm just totally emotionless .. I.e. everything other than anger feels terribly forced, even putting a normal smile on my face seems to cost as much energy as running for 10 miles.

Just wanna know there's a light at the end of the tunnel This is my 8th day and counting

I've been quit now for 3 years. still get hit with random cravings that seem to come from nowhere. I'm fine around smokers though the smell makes me feel bad.
I made myself feel better by eating junk and ended up putting on 23kg in weight, because of that I started to work out 5 times a week and I've not lost any weight but toned up quite nicely and all the sweaty stuff is making me feel much healthier and happier.[thumbup]

That's good to hear (especially the first part, I feel like a 10 year old when people light up around me)

Well most people say they started eating alot, (I actually quit among other reasons to gain some weight) but I'm far from hungry lol. Anyway how long have you been smoking? And how did the first weeks go after quitting? Cheers for sharing anyway

You obviously don't know what it's like to quit smoking, this is one of the few subjects that aren't supposed to be made fun of, just like pregnant women. go away.

I'd been smoking for about 15 years. 25 a day.
The first 2 weeks are the hardest, best tip I can offer is bin your lighters and leave your money at home.
I did have a hell of a time quitting as me and the wife quit together, my god we had some big rows during that first month! but it made it easier with another person putting pressure on you to keep off the evil weed.

Oh and another thing I don't know if its just me but for the first 3 months I coughed up a load of crap from my lungs, but since then I've never had a cough or a sore throat.

My dad quit about 27 years ago, he always says that the seven first years where the hardest. He used to smoke a couple of packs a day, plus pipe tobacco for over 15 years. He quit cold turkey. He says that he still gets cravings when he smell the smoke sometimes.

I don't know what it's like to give up smoking, because I've never been an addict. But I am pretty sure continually discussing it and dwelling on it is not going to make you happier.

Well if you read the original topic, u can see I was just asking 1 question

But then again I went on with the discussion, even though it wasn't about that exact question. Anyway you're absolutely right, thanks for your support anyway guys, I pretty much got an idea of what is waiting for me the next couple of months

Oh and @ SnW, it was meant to be as a kind of joke (in a sort of sarcastic way, just like Golem did) ah well nobody got it, too farfetched anyway . It was related to Scrubs, where one of the characters gets pregnant, and friends are told how to deal with it Along the lines of "when you're pregnant, you're allowed to do and say anything without being frowned upon"

And @ Golem, I kind of had a feeling you were one of them sorry if it came out wrong .. should have been more polite I've quit other stuff I shall not mention too, and I respect you for that.

Btw I've pretty much answered my own question anyway. It was just a temporary setback (took a couple of hours), feeling alot better now!

Quitting smoke is not an easy task .It depends on the person and how much he is stubborn?smoker should be firm and need to avoid friends ,bars. For me it took 3 months and now I am happy.

been quit for almost a year now. Feels good but remember once a smoker always a smoker. There are days i wouldn't mind a smoke besides i'm a heavy caffeine drinker which doesn't make it any easier. Oh btw i was a heavy smoker for around 15 years IIRC.

im planning to quit Febuary 29th, for the past 2 months I have been cutting down and trying to change my activities. I have tried to quit before, but I was young (still young now @ 28) and I smoked for almost 13yrs and i tried cold turkey style. But this time, im pretty geared up to quit. I gave myself 2 months to quit and I have steadily decreased my daily intake from about 15-20 down to about 5-10 (depends on the day im having)

Keep up the good work, ill be joining you soon
