Oh,the tires are definately bald,it is an AWD car though, with yummy limited slip diff's.

Still I'd bet I could get your car out bald tires or no.
lol you could try. it is absolutely buggered in snow. very easy to go through half a tank of petrol to go 100 yards. it does have a good traction control system for when you finally get moving though.

I haven't seen the ground in several months. 70% of the roads are constantly covered in packed snow/ice. Main roads are plowed enough to see the pavement.

And for the last few weeks the average temp as been -5F (-20C)

[help]

I cant wait for march/april when it starts to warm up. 0C would be awesome!

Put on the news currently and most of it is filled with pointless stuff related to the small amount of snow the Brits have got, it's embaressing, most people are making a huge deal of it when there's next to nothing there....
Come now, it's British lore to whinge about something!

Update from the other side of the globe: here in Sydney we are about to have one of the hottest weekends this summer with temps reaching 44C. I have some friends from the Netherlands coming over for a visit then... should be a nice surprise for them!

The hottest I have ever been in was 47C in Victoria about 8 years ago. Icy poles melted before you had a chance to put them in your mouth, tar from the roads molded your shoes to the ground, and if you parked your car outside you would've literally suffocated if you tried to hop in and drive them! The coldest I have been in is -5C... not too cold at all really... but I am more of a summer guy.

I have just had two friends return from Melbourne within the week. They went from 40C+ to snow, was a bit of a shock to the system

I watched a video on the BBC site about commuters in the snow and they showed a sequence of several people slipping over on the ice.

Yeah, I don't get why the schools are closed. Some of them are still closed today ffs. [rolleyes]

I don't ever remember my schools being closed due to snow, only when the heating wasn't working.
My daughters school was closed. The playground was like an ice rink. She's 4. It's not that stupid 'ffs'.

So all schools should stay closed until the ice thaws? What if it doesn't thaw for weeks?

Don't be a ****, the schools should be closed if it's dangerous for the kids. Think about it.

How pathetic!! When I was at school I went whatever the weather. Then again, back then, all kids went to their local schools and not ones miles away, and so did the teachers. Theyre was no traffic gridlock as everyone walked or caught the school bus. If it was dangerous to go outside due to the ice, we all went into the assembly hall during dinner/breaktime.

We are too soft these days. Not surprised we are the laughing stock of the world!!

It's been raining off and on here for a few hours now. It still doesn't seem to have affected the snow so hopefully it's still around tomorrow.

I agree. Most kids are such pussies these days, its unbelievable! And yes, that includes the smaller ones too. We wanted to play outside whatever the weather was and had to be held back when it was too bad. Today its just Playstation this, Barbie dreamhouse that.

I know a lot of things these days are down to ridiculous health and safety laws, but seriously think about what you're saying. Little kids are pussies for not going to school when they can't even walk on the playground? Grow up. I guess you'll change if you ever have kids.

Well just like 8skellerns said, we went to school under such conditions, and nothing really happened. And that was like 20 years ago, not 100.

For my school, we didn't turn up to work not because it was unsafe for the students, but because it was unsafe for the staff to get in (myself included).

I left school 21 years ago and we had days when we didn't go due to snow. Saying that you didn't doesn't make you any cooler than anyone else.

As it happens my daughter is off again today, I tried for 1 hour to get to school (10 mins away) and gave up. I suppose I should walk there eh? perhaps in bare feet would be satisfactory.

No, that just shows how rediculously unprepared this country is when it gets 2 inches of snow. And people just give up. That attitude then prevails and they declare it a "snow day" and don't go to work because they're too lazy (although yes, they got two legs, they could walk - not a four year old, ofc, I'm talking grown up people).

Not even capable of de-icing pavements and schoolyards four days after the snow fell in London. And it's not -20 and blizzard, it's actually +5. I've decided that if I fall on my @rse while going to work and break a bone, I'll sue the council plain and simple.

I finished school 15 years ago and I never had the "luck" of not having to go because of snow or ice. Classes took place, if some areas of the schoolyards were considered slippery or dangerous they were just closed off or children were told to stay in designated areas. What we see these days here is nothing short of ridiculous.
