The area around madison square garden is a dump. The eateries are mostly overpriced diners and tourist traps. The best food is in the Village and Brooklyn. Check Time Out in New York and the Village Voice for recommendations.

im not worried about that particular area being a dump. im used to being in middlesbrough. it just seems pretty central to me.

If you're right next to MSG you might be able to take in a Knick game...and be disappointed because they're pathetic. [rofl] As far as transportation goes, subway is probably the most cost effective means to travel any considerable distance. Short stuff, just walk it. For photo locations...there's probably a million of them. If you want to get the know the locals really well, take out the camera in the subway with a cop in plain sight and start snapping like a madman. [thumbup] ...Yea, I wouldn't do that unless you like holding cells...

I went to NYC (Manhattan only)
Visited the Rockfeller Center, Liberty Island, Time Square, WTC Ground Zero, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Chinatown.
Walk around the Financial District, 5th ave, Central Park , lots to see over there.
shame didnt get to visit Soho, Chelsea and Greenwhich as was there for only 3 days

If you are staying around there only, get the 5 days pass for 27US$ iirc

here's some pics I uploaded online
