Default Root Beer in the UK?
I absolutely love Root Beer and Mountain Dew. Ever since I was a boy and after drinking loads of it whilst I was on holiday in the US, I fell in love with the stuff

And it just so happened that I was in Bristol the other day and managed to find a chinese supermarket that sold Mountain Dew and A&W Root Beer. Not to look greedy and as much as I wanted to buy loads and loads of it, I ended up buying three cans of each. I look back now and think I should have just asked for a crate of each as it lasted only 2 days.

Now I'm all out and I've had no luck looking for it locally to where I live. I know that Mountain Dew is not something you will find in a supermarket and is no longer made for the UK market. But does anyone know of supermarkets or places that may stock Root Beer in the UK? I've seen a few places online but there charging quite a bit per can not to mention postage.

Can anyone help a Root Beer junkie?

I've never tried it before but I hear Dandelion and Burdock is pretty similar, can someone confirm this as a good alternative?

Macdonalds used to sell it when i was a kid, for a short while.

Didn't catch on due to most people thinking it tasted of soap/mong.

Mountain Dew is similar to Lemon Tango but a helluva lot better.

Root beer smells like cough medecine, but its really really really nice to drink.

I WANT SOME NOW!!!!!

I'm not even sure what it is.

IIRC the last time I went to the US with my parents when we were in a restaurant and my dad was asked if he wanted a root beer and he asked if it was alcoholic.

I've never seen it for sale in the UK. I didn't even know Mountain Dew had been sold here, in fact I'd never heard of it until I saw it mentioned on here!

It might be sold as sarsaparilla or sasparilla there. But I wouldn't hold out hope. You can also brew your own root beer, using much of the same equipment as you would for brewing real beer.

I have been able to walk into a shop and buy mountain dew in the US, Japan and Aus but not here [thumbdown] I tend to drink a weeks supply in a day when abroad in order to make up for it

Love the stuff too

Not quite. In the strictest sense it is a carbonated drink flavored with root extracts, but it's not the same. Root beer was originally flavored with sassafras root and later artificial sassafras flavoring.

Man, if Waitrose has it, it will do. Thanks for letting me know.

You haven't lived until you try Root Beer and Mountain Dew, not to mention Cherry Flavoured Kool-AId (another drink we don't have in the UK). Were so underprivlidged in the UK.

Kool Aid is another drink that i don't have a clue about. I remember it being mentioned in one of TLC's songs and always wondered what it was.

I really like Mountain Dew and I don't know why it never caught on over here. I used to look forward to drinking it at Mildenhall airshow on the US airbase. I wonder how much US taxpayers money it took to ship thousands of cans of Mountain Dew out on C5 Galaxies just to have it all guzzled by English day trippers? :-D
