Oh yeah I forgot, you can get HD on cable as well but you can't buy a TV with that built in anyway.

Here is the UK "HD Ready" requirements.
Those look to be the exact same requirements as here in the US before ATSC tuners became a requirement. (minus the requirement of accepting 50hz signals)

I have no experience with Sony TV's mute (but was a fan of their CRTs) maybe it's specific to certain UK models or something, I came the across the issue while browsing AVForums a while back. Possibly a firmware bug or incorrectly set up.

http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-t...ntrast-24.html
Interesting, I wasn't aware of that it was still possibly an issue. I do remember a couple years back Sony actually sent out a letter regarding the forced edge enhancement. To be honest I am not 100% positive that there is none on my display but I have not noticed any haloing or what looks like EE on any of my sources as long as the sharpness is at a decent level.

Ah alright, yeah over here if your cable provider supplies them you can get a cable card that basically decrypts the signal and you don't need the cable box.

Two weeks ago Sony had a deal going on one of their top end TVs - £800 for their 40" 40w4000 with a PS3. One of the best TVs money can buy and 10"s bigger than what youre looking at right now.

If youre not interested in the PS3, it could be sold for £300 as its brand new - that would leave you with the 40W4000 for £500 more or less.

The deal is not on their website, if youre interested ill check instore for you next time I go by that way.

Edit: Heres the first link off google when I searched for a review: http://whathifi.com/Review/Sony-KDL-40W4000/

Well I've got a Panasonic, not this one But have to say very very happy with it. Build quality seems good... SD Sky picture is soft though, BUT it's a 58" so to be expected. Where these Pannys seem to shine is with HD... blacks are seriously black...

So, I haven't seen that one in action But myself and 2 friends have similar TV's of verying sizes and none have complaints.

Pug, were you not tempted to spend £1500-£2000 on a 50"+ Plasma and the other 2 grand on a projector? You could have got a decent LCD, DLP or even entry level D-ILA/SXRD and possibly an electric screen all for the price of your TV.

I wanted the biggest TV I can afford... did have a 56" JVC D-ILA screen but that went tits up after 13 months (November 2008), so when I called the insurance, it was going to cost £1500 to repair, they said no and then gave me 3 TV's to chose from COMET (of all places I could've saved them money but still)... one of which was this awesome £4k Panasonic 58" TH58PZ800B... I said I was happy to get the 56" fixed, but they wouldn't have it... they wouldn't pay up so it was this TV or nothing, when I seen it in action and reviews, I was in awe, so snapped them up not believing my luck... all it cost me was £17 delivery. the stupid thing was, the JVC I had before, was a £2500 quid set that I paid £1k for i an end of line sale at Digital Direct... so basically I've spent £1k 16 months ago and ended up with a £4k TV that's basically 2nd best TV you can buy behind the Pioneer. Result or what. No wonder insurance companies rip us off when they waste money like this. Even kept the £300 stand from my old JVC which is awesome, and use it for the Panny

So, as you can see, that's why I haven't got all the things you've listed because I didn't have £4k to spend on a TV as I'd just bought a new car [thumbup]

And a cracking TV yeah my uncles bought one of these (sure it's this one) off the Net about 3 weeks ago for £200 more than that... he'll be gutted, deffo a very good deal... steal at that price! Got a very nice picture on it, and I do personally like Toshiba... never had a problem with them. Looks are bland as hell when I went around to link it up, nothign special at all BUT the picture once setup is great. I actually found it to be a ncie DVD screen as well.

Was that part of a package because there are some good deals with free movies from other places, Blockbusters for example. And unfortunately I think you've missed the Sony free disc offer (Batman Begins and Casino Royal), it ended today I believe.

No I bought it seperately. I saw the blockbuster deal but decided to get it online for £160 and use the £40 I saved on choosing my own blurays as I only like a couple of the films that come with the deal.

Damn it!!!!!! Batman Begins would be awesome I can imagine!

Did you know you can make it multi-region for DVDs? All you need is a One-for-all remote control.
