Default Need help dealing with jet lag ...
I went home to the UK for my Bro's wedding / Xmas / New years.
I flew from London, Heathrow to Tokyo, Narita at 13:00 New years day and landed on Friday 2nd at 10 (am). The flight was 11 hours so I lost my night between the 1st and 2nd.

I then had a 3 hour bus ride back home and forced myself to stay awake till the evening and finally collapsed at 20:00 (8pm).
I woke up at 6 am feeling like I'd had a good sleep but stayed in bed a few hours only to fall back asleep till 1pm.

Having woke up at 1, I decided to go and make the most of the few hours of sunlight I had left so I went and did a bit of shopping etc. Then that night I met up with a friend till about mid night, got home and went to bed about 3am (wasn't all that tired).

Ok, so last night (this morning) I went to bed at 3am but I woke up at 3:30pm today!!!
As soon as I got up I was starving / dehydrated so went to the local supermarket and bought a load of food and drink but now as I type this (looks over shoulder out of window), yep, the sun has now gone down! Now I'm starting to feel really weird!!!!!

Has anyone got any tips for getting over this horrible jet lag?!

The problem is you tried to stay up. Your body can't lose sleep it has to gain it somewhere. It tries to sleep it all in in one day or it can take several days of like 1 hour extra. Eventually you will feel ok as the body regains those hours you slept. You should have forced some sleep on the plane. You can't lose sleep that's the trick, you can only try can keep sleeping. Even if you feel slept out, you need to try and keep asleep until the next day in Japan.

Well you're only a few days in so don't worry too much. give it a few more days and try to get the sleep at the proper hours, and maybe a few cat naps during the day to get that extra energy in.

Nah sorry, I've already dealt with him.

As for sleeping on the Plane - I can't do that, I don't know why but I just can't sleep whilst travelling.
I'm gonna set a few alarms to make me get up tomorrow at a reasonable time but no doubt I won't be tired until the early morning again tonight [rolleyes]

the magic words are: Sleeping Pills !
Something with a rather short term affect and non addictive.
Iīd say ask your doc !!
Heīll probably give you a light sedative, something like of Zopiclon or Zolpidem.

You don't have to be dead to the world. Just keeping your eyes shut and tuning out helps conserve energy. Since you're sort of conscious your mind gets bored, so wrap some headphones on and play some low level soothing music. IMO Jazz is really good to relax and the snooze out to. [yes]

Trust me, I'm not great with sleeping on a plane, however I try to make good attempt rather just watching in flight movies all night.

Oh and a drink or two can help bring on some ZzZz's

bloody 'ell, couldn't get to sleep till 7am this morning but woke up at 12:30 this afternoon.
I guess though now if I get to bed at a decent time and set a load of alarms to force me to wake up at a sensible time I should be adjusted [rolleyes]

best thing to do is to set up 3 alarms in your bedroom but away from your bed so you have to walk and dont put them all in one spot. You have to get up early. You will be tired but go to bed at 8-9pm that night and you will be back to normal. If you sleep after 9pm then it wont work
You need to make your self tired BUT go to bed early so you get enough rest when you wake up at a respectable time the next day.

Damnit! Thought i'd got it all sorted but woke up today at 3pm!
Though I was awake for 3 hours in the night not being able to get back to sleep (so I read my book) - so I probably had about 11-12 hours sleep total (which I guess is OK).

You're right, I'm getting set every alarm I've got for tomorrow as it's my first day back at work
Gonna ask a mate to ring me in the morning too

You might have woken at 3pm but what you need to do is try and sleep again around 10pm. Then wake about 6-8am. That way you're getting 8-10 hours.

Your body is obviously exhausted if you had 11 hours of sleep.

Try and do things to relax you and make you sleep. No caffeine in the evening.

Oh dear.
Went to bed last night around ~11pm but woke up at 2:30am.
I tried to sleep for a few hours but just couldn't get back to sleep so I got out of bed around 4:30 and am now showered, eating breakfast and will no doubt down a few cups of tea but I feel fine - not tired at all.

No doubt the tiredness may kick in later - who knows, I may be able to go home early if I came a scene. I should be fine by tonight/tomorrow though, those kids will exhaust me!
(I'm a teacher!!! Yeah I know what you were thinking).

Nah, it was pointless - I knew I wouldn't get back to sleep. Thought I may as well get up and take my time
