Meh, didn't think this really fit in the other categories, so I figured I'd ask in GD. :P
AVSForum had someone ask the quetsion and got a 65% vote for the 67" LED Sammy v.s. both the 72" Sammy and 73" Mitsu non-LED television. So naturally I'm leaning towards the Samsung since they usually know their stuff over there. My old non widescreen toshiba SDTV kicked the bucket. Rather than fix it we decided its time to upgrade to HD. I've always wanted an HDTV. I like pretty things. Anyone own either or have experience with em? Going to buy it at circuit city sometime soon. I don't really like to go by in store demo's, because you don't get the chance to set the TV to your preference. Depending how they set them up one may look better because of the settings. |

A projector is a bit of a hassle, you really shouldn't use it for everyday viewing. The bulbs get expensive, even though the initial purchase is cheaper. And you really have to worry about the room lighting is, otherwise the image washes out.
Though a 100"+ image is nice. I say the 67" samsung. More contrast is a very nice thing. |

I work at Circuit City, they'll usually haggle with you if you get a City Advantage plan. Mind if I ask what the prices on these TV's are for you?
Go with Samsung, they are at the top along with Sony in the TV game. Although, I haven't been paying much attention to the DLPs. I'm getting a Sony 52" XBR6 LCD for under $1500. :P |

Projectors are a headache. Mounting, screens, etc. Its easier to just get an RPTV.
The Mitsu HC4900 is in my price range tho, and has crossed my mind. The problem is then you have to invest in a good screen. I'm not too familiar with projectors, but I checked a few calculators and for mounting 13' away it suggests about a 100" screen. I'm just not sure that price/performances matches up with what I'm looking for. It'd be pretty awesome to have a 100" pulldown screen mounted to my wall, but the cost of a good screen is kinda high, and I'm not sure that it would perform (PQ wise) as well as a good RPTV. I'm trying to keep it under $2500. Right now I can get the Mitsu 73" or Sammy 67" for around $2400 delivered (after tax) and they'll take my dead toshiba away. Altho a projector would be applicable for their 10% off with instore pickup. ![]() I work at Circuit City, they'll usually haggle with you if you get a City Advantage plan. Mind if I ask what the prices on these TV's are for you? I think the Sammy is $2250, and I have a corporate discount for 7% if I order on-line, so that negates the sales tax for me. Mitsu is like $2400 or so. In the end all I pay is the $75 delivery and take-away charge, which is far cheaper than me getting a uhaul and doing it myself. Plus if anything happens in transit it's not my fault if I pay them to do it. $2325 dlivered for a brand new 67" LED is pretty good IMO. Those LED's get great reviews, and I don't have to worry about lamp burn out like with my Toshiba that just died. By the time that thing is dead laser tv's will be affordable. That new 67" laservue is like $7,000... |

Not always. Actually, I think I already did convince her. When I tried to explain why I wanted the 67" over the 73" I said "Would you rather have Ron Jeremy or the Postal Dude?" I've now comitted to buying a PS3 and Postal so that she has something to do during the time gap where she's home from work and I'm still at work. |

Man, for that kind of money, I'd drop it on a W Series from Sony. 120 Hz and excellent PQ.

There's no way I could get her to drop to anything under 67" at this point. Especially not to a 46"
I think in this instance a large screen can outweigh picture quality to some extent. When I watch a movie I do like to have a big screen. There's something about chilling on the couch with the wife and a bag of popcorn basking in the glow of a giant T.V. that just seems nice. Plus she'll be using it more than I will. I tend to spend more time at my PC than I do in front of the TV. I'll be picking up the 2nd tier HD package from Dish Network to go with it. We only watch like 5 or 6 channels, and it just so happens that package has them all in HD. She can spend her evenings watching animal planet and HGTV while I'm playing WoW. Now if only I could get approved for a sony card. $150 off a PS3 would be so awesome. |

They both would have good picture quality/performance. However, one experience I have had with either of them is helping my friend move his 73" Mitsubishi to get serviced. Basically the light engine failed and was unrepairable and the TV had to be replaced. Rather than go back to a Mitsu DLP they sacrificed size to get a 52" Samsung LCD and despite the fairly significant drop in screen size are much happier. Now of course he could have just had bad luck but I thought I would give you the heads up.
