That is insane. Going to be hitting up thousands of license plates per shift! Lot of people going to be getting into trouble!
This thing is sweet. I can see this greatly improving the security of our streets and should also really help boost the level of revenue generated for the city/county/state! http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a42...prlicplate.flv |

NC police have been using that for a little bit (exactly how long? I'm not sure), but my parents found out the hard way a year or two back when their registration was late.
The police officer said that he would not have pulled them over, but he was required to since the software picked them up. He also stated that the software is capable of detecting multiple (like 10) cars at one time. |

That really sucks for privacy In the US, the only way to prevent this is to amend the constitution/bill of rights, and i do not see that happening. |

That really sucks for privacy When you go driving, EVERYONE can see your tags. How would that suck for privacy? Every tag a cop sees, he has to manually input it into his laptop, so he can only get a few dozen cars run through is computer a shift. With this, they can run thousands and hour, and help protect our streets. This changes nothing for privacy at all. All it does is make police officers thousands times more efficient in their job, which boils down to keep the streets safer and possibly increasing your cities revenue. Jesus, what's next. They'll be tracking where you go, who you see there, what you buy and what color your morning crap is. Does nothing for privacy, or changing of the law so that we have less civil rights. All this does is make then thousands times more efficient at what they already do as a police offer. Run tags and pull you over if something comes up on their computer screen. |

That really sucks for privacy The system will be linked into the main computer system. Here in the UK only cars that are: Declared SORN Have no Tax Have no Insurance Have no MOT Have an "Intelligence" marker on Are flagged and then the police are expected to pull it over. The first four are all "law breakers" so of course those people should be pulled, fined and the car taken. The fifth means that the car or occupants are suspected of other crimes - drug dealing, robbery, etc. This kind of system is only a good thing. If the system makes a mistake (apparently extremely rarely) then the occupant will be on their way within moments. This system gets illegal drivers off the road - the uninsured people who crash in to other people who in turn have nobody to claim against etc. It also means that people suspected of serious crime can be detected wherever they are going. |

in public, which driving around on streets and highways is, you have no right to privacy, non, zero, zilch. It is a misconception to think you do, because you do not and never have. I could follow you around with a camera all day if i wanted, as could the police if they wanted to as long as they (or i) did not follow you on to private property...at least in the states, and i would suspect in canada too. (obviously this is the case in britain too, as they have 1 camera for every 14 people) Isn't this the reason people were buying that special gloss spray and license plate holders? Supposedly if u use this high gloss spray or special plastic case it'll cause glare and the system won't be able to read the plate. |

Always one. You could be stripped naked, looking at kiddie porn whilst masturbating, smoking crack and screaming about bombing a police station in the middle of a motorway and one person will always say "That's unfair, what about his right to privacy?"
This is a sore spot to me as the guy caught with underage pics on his PC at my work is claiming the "My privacy was infringed" thing. You're driving around with your licence plate on show 24/7. If a cop wants to check the details of my car let him. I have Tax and Insurance. I have no convictions and have no problem having the checked by an automated system. If they were fitting camera's in your house to watch you play with pocket sized Elvis while you browse the "fun" sites online, then you can complain. |
