Default Spilled some Salicylic Acid
I was washing some dishes and bumped it off the counter, it was a planter ward medication. It's 17%. Only a little spilled out of the bottle but now the top of the bottle is smashed, I think it would be a good idea to dispose of this before it I bump it again (this time without the cap). Does anyone know if I can just mix it with baking soda then dump it down the drain? It's just about an ounce.

I just tried mixing a little with baking soda and it doesn't react. I think the other chemicals in the medicine are stopping it from reacting. Either that or the PH is very neutral. Still I'm not sure how to dispose of this though because if it comes in contact with the skin it will basically kill the skin right away.

What about diluting it with water?

I would imagine it would be ok to start the water running and slowly poor it down the sink.

Doh, just phone your local chemist/pharmacy/drug store - they'll either take it off your hands or tell you how to dispose of it safely.

just poor it down the sink... it is used in shampoo's as high as 10% so 17% causes no danger. If you have a nasty pimple some where, you might dab a little on there 1st, as it is also used in acne medication.

Salicylic Acid is used in a number of products ranging from facewash to dish detergent, so I don't think anything that you'd put on a plantar wart is going to cause any problems in your drainage.
