Default Moving house...how to take the 50" plasma??
hey all, i need to move my 50" plasma across town to my new flat and i'm led to believe you have to keep them vertical at all times. I'm concerned that the rocking on it's stand may cause damage if i put it in my van, so does anyone have a good suggestion? i dont have the original packaging anymore...

any idea how much a delivery company will charge to move it? or perhaps a speficied company who deals with this sorta thing, ta.

stick it in the back of the van either boxed up (if you still have the box) or wrapped up in blankets if you don't.

Have a mate sit in the back of the van with it for the journey, holding onto it to stop it from rocking about (or sit in the back yourself and have a mate drive).

Either way, drive slow and avoid speed-bumps

Yup that's pretty much how me and my friend moved my old 42inch plasma [yes]

Wrapped in towels on the backseat of an Opel Astra with him holding it tight (literally) And oh moving them will be ALOT easier than expected

I wouldn't put a 50" plasma TV upright on a roof rack. How would you secure it?

hire some people to move your stuff for you and pay that extra bit so that if they break anything, they have to pay for it

I never trust other people with expensive electronics, never underestimate the power of incompetence.

My friend had Best Buy install his 60" Sony SXRD TV (he has a car, wouldn't fit) and they scrapped the thing across the brick getting into his place and he was screwed with the 6 weeks it took them to replace it.

What happens if they bang it, it works for a while but then dies later on becuase of it's misstreatment?

Things like that I'd always move myself - I know no one would handle it with the same amout of care. Like the others have said, really wrap it up - protect the screen say with cardboard. Hell, use the seatbelts if you can (I do this ALOT) to secure it down.
