Superbowl the most watched event in the world?

Anyone know for sure?

I heard that 2 BILLION people watch it.

Domovoy 05-02-2007 08:25 AM

I find that figure hard to believe - that's about 35% of the global population!!

yqpY4iw6 05-02-2007 08:26 AM

World cup final is bigger.

Anyway, it sounds like that 2billion figure is the number of people that can pick it up.

StitsVobsaith 05-02-2007 08:30 AM

I was thinking 2 billion was quite steep aswell.

I mean, you have all the dirt poor people in the world that don't have TVs.

I agree.
outside North America I doubt many people would follow American Football as its only popular in that region.

FIFA World Cup is definetly the most watched

Aceroassert 05-02-2007 09:09 AM

the commentry just said 1 billion. bit of a rough guess id think

Gofthooxdix 05-02-2007 09:18 AM

Well no one in Aus would typically give a **** about it. But I'm watching it, to see what it's all about, and asking my US mate (in AZ) about certain aspects of the game. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif

Isnt it Monday morning already in Australia? No work/school/Uni?

goatteatromiag 05-02-2007 09:23 AM

If you define the 'world' as the United States of America, then I believe you can safely say the the Superbowl is indeed the the most watched event...

But I would believe the World Cup Final to be the most watched event in the world when you define the 'world' as being composed of all the nations of the planet Earth.

To tell you the truth, there is very little interest in American football outside of the United States of America.

Yeah currently 11am monday... telecast started 9:30am

and no work... works all weekend.

SiM7W2zi 05-02-2007 09:32 AM

200 million would be more likely, and even that would be amazing. The World Cup football is much bigger than that. The games average about 350 million viewers and the 2002 final was watched by 1,3 billion viewers.

Aceroassert 05-02-2007 09:33 AM

00:34 here but as i worked all weekend i have no work until tuesday. [thumbup]

estheticianI 05-02-2007 09:36 AM

I think it's "broadcasted" to 2 billion (or however many they say) households. Not all of those people actually watch it.

Now I wouldn't stay up to watch it. Just fortunate that it's on at a reasonable time. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/biggrin1.gif

Yeah, usually I just stay awake when the Cowboys are in the Superbowl. But it was many years ago they made it the last time, so I though "why not", because I wont have to show up @ work before noon tomorrow.

Actually, you'd be surprised. Alot of people outside the US keep up with football.

DrKirkNoliss 05-02-2007 05:47 PM

Was a horrible game(I hate CBS)

Most watched event in America
World Cup(hell, I bet certain quarterfinals would easily eclipse the superbowl) games easily pull alot more viewers(and has room for growing)

Gaiaakgyyyg 05-02-2007 05:51 PM

Apparently the most watched sporting events are when India play Cricket particularly against England.

GDRussiayear 05-02-2007 07:02 PM

ahh I wondered what people were talking about last night..

in game chat

'Come on the bears!'
'SICKO leave the bears alone!'

[rofl]

RadcliffXX 06-02-2007 10:14 PM

Your average Grand Prix proabably beats those numbers. Superbowl is only big in US.
