there is still alot of adult xxx dvd stores here in Calgary, so I would say it still has alot of say in the format industry.
even though ppl can download porn from the net, some prefer to have hard porn copies, watchable easily anywhere and actually collects them.

someone in a local car forum, tried to sell his 60+ porn dvd that he just newly bought becaues he was getting married.
You bought them didn't you... don't lie.. we can see right through it..

Hi Def won from the outset.

If I ask my mum or my dad if they are going to buy a Blue Ray Player that'd not know what the fook I was on about.

If I said High Def they'd at least have an iota of what I was talking about.
This is why I think HD-DVD will be more acceptable, just because of the name. Everybody knows DVD, and now almost every knows something about HD begin better quality. Now they see HD-DVD and it's instant they know it's better than DVD. Blue Ray just sounds like a toy for the rich

I mean that the internet and HD-DVD are two different types of distribution for video porn. What I am saying is that the internet is now the main provider of video porn, so it is of less importance if the only physical media you can get it on is HD-DVD, if most people are just downloading it.
What is of importance though is the reasons why the porn industry is avoiding Bluray and whether that impacts other areas of production. Personally I think a 'war' might be a good thing. I'm with others on this who say HD-DVD just sounds better and what I'm looking forward to is the sub $300 Chinese HD-DVD players which will enter the market to compete with the PS3s bluray function. Toshiba is willing to rush out Chinese licensed players to have an advantage no doubt Sony will look to do something similar and we end up with cheap mainstream players a lot quicker than usual.

If HD-DVD wins then that's put a mighty big nail into the coffin of the PS3.

Agreed. Right now that's all the PS3 has going for it. It is the best bang for your buck blu-ray player as well as a gaming console. If Blu-ray goes the way of Betamax its going to hurt... a LOT.

Sex sells. Porn has a VERY large influence on society. If it didn't, Mr. Hefner wouldn't be one hell of a rich *and lucky!* man. Internet porn is easy to get, but you have to understand that while YOU may think its easy to stream it to your TV from your PC... you're also the kind of guy hanging out on a geek board on the internets. :P Joe 6-Pack doesn't have the PC and porn surfing skills that we here have acquired. He goes to his local video rental or sex toy shop, picks up some naughty media, and pops it in. Its the same reason people buy playboys. Getting free good quality porn on the internet is NOT easy for people who aren't good with computers or don't know their way around the internet. If you search google for free porn I'm sure your first few pages will be "samples" for paysites. I would go search to prove my point, but I'm at work.

So while internet porn is good, nothing beats high quality HD-DVD porn. Finding that quality of porn on the internet won't be an easy task. That, and interactive porn is on the horizon. Interactive HD-DVD porn will lure in many men much like the call of a siren.

If HD-DVD wins it will mean the PS3 is already dead.

Assuming Sony never releases another game for it I'm no sony fanboy, but Blue Ray is one part of the PS3. Blue Ray loses, sucky, but they still have a next gen, HD gaming console to work with.

If BluRay loses it will mean the PS3 hasn't sold very well. If the PS3 does sell well then movie studios won't abandon all those potential customers, even if most of them just buy games.

The funny thing is, it even mentions this was one reason why Betamax didnt win because Sony didnt want Porn on that media. Surely they would have learnt by their mistakes, but if they have a thought in mind, they seem to stick with it.

I geuss not everyone learns from their mistakes, either that or they'd rather watch their own format die rather than have porn on it...which is still weird, especially for a big company.

Porn is not going to decide the fate of the format war.

2007 is a completely different era. There's this little thing called the "Internets" now.

Well it depends. If you are talking paid sites, then yea, but if you're talking about the illegal downloads - they have to be uploaded from some media in the first place, no?

Despite what you may think, there is still a very huge market for physical media based porn. People still buy tons and tons of porn on dvd. Now that the porn industry has chosen hd-dvd it's going to be the whole "vhs vs betamax" war again cept with this time blue-ray going the way of the dodo. It will still be around because of the ps3, but who knows what will ultimatly become of it.
