Default Anybody used Escrow payment services?
Hey guys, I need some incite. My sister has asked me to sell her engagment ring that never fell through on Ebay. I have a potential buyer for it willing to shell out $3400 for it, including international shipping to Paris. He got screwed out of $9000a few months ago through paypal and refuses to use it again seeings how Paypal and the FBI couldn't do anything. How the hell is that possible? Does paypal suck that much?

Anyone heard of this service? Is it good and easy? Im a real Ebay newb so Im new to this whole seller thing. He is willing to pay the money first including service fees's. Anything I need to be aware of or should look for? Thanks for any help.

He's so willing to buy it he asked me to remove the item from auction which I did. Was that a bad move? Heres the listing for it and the Escrow funding service

This isn't a joke, so I appreciate serious posts only unless you have a point.

Scamola dude. Tell the guy to go and sit on a rusty spike.

Go and google fivestar-alliance.com, its not listed on google. Its a site that has been setup within the past few days to act as a front for scamming ebay members. It'll be shut down soon and then another will come up in its place. When anyone asks to buy something for lots of money, but they don't want to use paypal due to some horror story they give you, its usually a scam.

Here's his last email to me. What do you think?

dch58 dch58 [dch58@dr.com]

That`s great! Let`s move on with this transaction. There are some details we have to set up before we proceed. I live in a town near Paris in France, Europe. I prefer FedEx Int`l Priority for shipping so I checked with FedEx and the shipping price via FedEx Int`l Priority is around $150. I will pay the entire amount.
I want you to know that I would normaly pay via Paypal but two months ago I paid a guy in Miami, FL over $9000 for a Rolex watch and he ran away with my money. Paypal and the FBI told me they can do nothing and they cannot give me my money back.
I was very upset and dissapointed you can imagine that! $9,000 is a loss for anybody.
So regarding payment I would like to use an Escrow payment service to pay for your item because we don`t know each other and this is for our both protection. Also the Escrow is offering insurance for free for all packages sent through UPS and FedEx. Obviously I will pay all the transaction fees involved.
If you agree and wish to proceed further please visit www.fivestar-alliance.com and register. The whole process is very fast, easy to use and convenient. If you are new to the Escrow payments you will find everything you need to know on their website. After you register just e-mail me back and I will send the payment right away.
There is one more thing, please remove the item from Ebay so that we can proceed forward with this transaction. I guarantee I will buy it at the specified price.

Regards,
Paulo Bianchi

Well for a start, that website has no secure log-in server. Not very good for an escrow agent surely?

What about if it was a different Escrow service, like one of the ones recommended by eBay?

There you go icewind, suggest to him to use one of the official escrow sites and see what his response is. I would bet that he comes up with some crap that "The site I recommended is better as they give more insurance".

But seriously, I wouldn't even be bothering to reply to his messages. Its sound like your run of the mill ebay scam.

Due to the seemingly shakey reliablity of escrow payment services from what i've heard so far, I declined to use his preffered 3rd party member and instead aked on using Paypal or money order. With that, he cancelled his request.

Sucks, was really looking forward to selling it too....

Report the incident to ebay. From the sounds of it some naughty person has hijacked someone's account, unless someone with 79+ feedback has suddenly decided to go for one large scamola. Personally I would opt for the former.

And welcome to the wonderful world of ebay. Where you trust no one, especially people who;
a) Offer more than the product is worth
b) Ask to buy outisde ebay with Western Union or Escrow
c) Anyone from Nigeria
d) Has negative or no feedback (unless you're selling piddly little items.)
