There are a few WWII tie in's with the orignal 3 SW's.

I think that parts of the movie are shot-for-shot just like 'Dambusters.' And the Storm Troopers were part of the SS. The blaster rifles were MG34's, and if you want to stretch it, the blaster pistols were C96 "Broomhandle" Mausers.
