I've just moved into a new place and our bedroom/living room is chock full of dust to a ridiculous level. Aparently the room, unlived in for about 5 years hasn't been hoovered/dusted during that time although it probably had a dog around in it for a while. I want to know how to deal with the levels of dust, obviously you can dust surface but I imagine that returns some of the dust back into the air and then there's still the dust that was already floating around so I was thinking about trying and air filter + ionizer to clear the air but the info on the internet varies widely from can stop you from ever being ill again to not being able to assimilate anymore dust than you CRT TV screen (though I think that was talk only about the ionizer not the filter). So what I'm wondering is has anyone around here used them/have any experience of them and are they effective?

I use a HEPA air filter. I have 2 of them running 24/7 in my place and they catch A LOT of dust (without the ionizers). It's amazing to wonder how much of this stuff I would have inhaled or would go on my carpet. I feel "cleaner" with the air filters constantly running. The only drawback is that the filters cost money every year. Don't get the Ionic Breeze. Consumer Reports gave that a bad rating and said it can actually hurt you. Indoor air pollution sucks!
