Default American clothing companies????
Hi guys...I am currently planning to set up my own clothing retail outlet. I aim to be selling only American labels. Could anyone give me some ideas with some brands?

By the way...it is casual style (anything remotely similar to Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, American Eagle, etc).

Thanks in advance guys.

Sorry, I thought I mentioned in the original post that I am currently PLANNING to open up this business. I may not actually go down this route of purely American clothing but I really would appreciate the HELP from the forums.

Sorry, I thought I mentioned in my original post that I'm an irritating 4$$hole. Oh no I didn't mention it but I'm sure from the tone of the post you gathered it by now. I'll go bother someone else.

Isn't this type of infor readily available on the web? Sure it is! A quick search on Google provides lots of info on this topic, much more than Onions can assist you with. [rolleyes]

Thanks guys (with the exception of Black Sabbath)

Really appreciate the help. Btw...I have been searching on Google and the net but I just need some clothing label names from America to be able to do proper searches. So far I am fairly interested in Hollister and Ed Hardy. Abercrombie and American Eagle both do not wholesale out to any other company.

Funny, I just saw a guy on the news this morning that is starting an american clothing company. Made in america clothes, not just an american label. Which is nearly impossible nowadays. Anyways I hope it works out.

That's a good point, and it really goes both ways. Searching "American clothing companies" on Google produced some sites containing lists of US textile plants, which weren't necessarily associated with any specific brand, foreign or domestic.

American Eagle, Gap, and Abercrombie are their own clothing outlets and you cannot sell their brand.

You are going to have a hard time selling anything from American Mall stores. They do not wholesale clothes. Besides it would be easier to attend a tradeshow and have your own clothes made by the same chinese factories that make American Eagle, Abercrombie, Hollister, etc. Its the biggest joke in retail. The average $80 pair of jeans was bought overseas for $5-7. Hell a $400 Coach purse costs $12 to buy from China. I've got the card from the factory. They are making my company bat bags at a cost of $7 made from the same nylon.

If you want to find some labels that you can get your hands on check out JC Penny.com or Macys.com. For real high end check out Nordstrom. The jeans and clothing lines they carry are available for wholesale. You'll then have to check out the manufacturer's sites to find out how you can become a wholesaler. Many times you need to have an opening order of a few thousand dollars or they wont open you as an account. There are a whole lot of independant labels in the USA that will sell you anything you will buy but they may be out of business in a year or not able to deliver on any schedule. Plus you won't make much money off of it due to th einitial cost and shipping to Britian. If you want to sell a pair of jeans for $200 and have people that will buy them then you will be fine.

Tommy Hilfiger isn't really a brand anybody wears in the US anymore. For some really good jeans check out Lucky brand. They are available for wholesale. Typically designer lables have very low margins unless you sell them for over suggested retail. Even though they are all made in Maccau for pennies on the dollar.
