Is there anyway to teach a cat?
 

As some of you may remember I have posted before talking about how awful my roommate's cat can be. Anyway throughout the past couple months he has been a complete nuisance! [cursing] This is that cat that likes absolutely no one except for my roommate.

Anyway, he will jump up on my receiver whenever no one is in the living room and actually shift the back two feet off of the CD player and shed all over it, then he walks across the back of my TV shedding his long nasty fur across all my electonics. I put a metal box ontop of it with a sheet of paper with double sided tape below the box when I am not using it but he has learned to knock it all off. He also now likes to lay on my coffee table which my deceased grandfather gave to me and knock random things off it it to make room for his fat ass. When not in the living room he goes in the kitchen and opens up cabinets and then sleeps on dishes and around our food. (Which is just rediculously unsanitary.) When he is there I have to get my roommate to get him out because no one else can touch him. Then he craps on the laundry room floor about two times a week, since apparently if there is a little spinkle of urine in his litter box it is too dirty for him so he takes a dump that easily rivals the size of my dogs yet smells 4x worse. I obviously never let him in my bedroom but when he is in my roommate's he will just straight jump through crap and knock it all over the place and then every now and then jump on his computer and knock it to the ground. I really think the thing is crazy bored or something because he just goes around knocking over everything he can. He has some toys and a scratching post, yet he never uses any of them and my roommate has never bought him a bed. Pretty much the only reason he has the cat is because he was trying to impress some chick at a party so he caught a stray kitten, to find out later the chick he was trying to impress was engaged. So now I get to live with this little venomous **** stain. [cursing]

So close to just leaving the back door open when I am cleaning one of these days.

I've heard spritzing them in the face with water (or HCL http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/wink1.gif) whenever they do something bad works.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that at my roommate's old house the people who lived with him used to do that whenever it would be places it shouldn't have been or when it would act up and it got to the point where it would just sit there and take it.

Hose FTW.

OK that's it I am seriously about to throw that thing in a box and dump him 15 miles into the woods. I walk into the kitchen this morning to get something to drink and I smell something utterly foul. The upper cabinet where the plates and bowls are is open and I peer in to find a large puddle of urine with a turd in the middle, that is just so far beyond foul! The litter box is almost completely clean other than a little bit of urine. The thing used to be an outside creature until my roommate saw a pack of stray dogs kill a stray cat so now he keeps his fat ass inside 24/7 so the thing just goes wild knocking over everything in site and making a huge mess all over the place.

Rat poison.

Cut off its legs. Your room mate will get pretty board of carrying it around everywhere and then he will get rid of it.

I've heard that if you stick tape on one side of a cat then it runs sideways.

I doubt it will help in the long run, but I'd imagine it might lighten the mood a bit.

Cats don't like the smell of some citrus, so an idea might be to get some orangy/lemony scent and put it in all the places you don't want him to go. There are other proper kinds of cat repellant that are passive and harmless.

In fact a lot of what i have read seems BS to me, and I din't think threads that describe cruely to animals for whatever reason was tolerated round here..

On a more serious note - do you not have the option of shutting him out from areas where you don't want him to go?

For example, we keep the door to our lounge closed during the night (giving our cats free run of the stairs and attic) - so that they don't scratch the couch in the lounge to bits when we are not about.

I have heard that keeping a spray bottle of water about, and spraying said animal when it does something wrong also works, although I've not tried it myself.

With one of my cats, if she sits somewhere she knows she is not meant to be, and will not move, then I just blow air on her from one of the little air-puffers I have for my camera. She hates it, and runs off immedately.

BS? Haha oh man, do you think I am just making this all up? Do you want me to take a picture of the cabinet? Who knows if it was at the same time either, he had all night. Don't urinate and crap in the same place? Up until a month or so ago he did both in his litter box. Also, cruelty of animals? How so? When have I ever stated that I have harmed the animal in any way? The people on this thread are just trying to lighten me up and they are joking which cheers me up. They don't actually expect me to follow through with the things they say. Do I wish he would get rid of the thing? We try to keep him in my roommate's room as much as possible as that is the only real place to keep him. He is also getting sort of fed up with him knocking junk over in his room but its the place where he does the least amount of damage. According to my roommate and his last roommate they tried the spray bottle thing and it worked for a little while but then he began to just sit there and look miserable.

Bitter Apple is a great cat/dog repellent. Its a vinegar like substance though so I'd read the warning labels about where you can put it.

There are also several other products out there. Cats hate the smell of another cat and often will avoid that spot. If you don't mind it, wipe some stuff down with pure ammonia let it dry and the cat should avoid it because it smells like another cats urine.

Just beware cause the smell of ammonia is almost as strong as the smell of cat urine! So don't use a lot of it.

Also, I forgot to mention this, Ammonia may discolor or stain certain paints or finishes so test a small spot that isn't visible and you dont' care about.

Cats aren't that fond of citrus fruit either, I know some people that leave organge peals by their front door to keep male cats away from stinking down the place during winter.
