Default Sex education for 10 year olds in the UK?
10 and 11-year-old children should be caught about condoms, according to an influential study. It's being recommended because teenagers in the UK are the most sexually active in Europe and we have the highest rate of teenage pregnancy.

Almost a third of 15-year-olds admitted not using a condom last time they had sex. In the last 10 years the number of chlamydia cases has gone up almost 250% for girls and 500% for boys.

As extreme as the notion of sex education for 10 and 11 year olds sounds, I think it might actually be a good idea. Quite horrific when you hear we have the highest rate of teen pregnancies in the whole of Europe! Not to mention the added complications of STIs.

But then we have something that the rest of Europe doesn't have; Chavs.

Anyway, most kids know all about sex at that age and I don't think this is the anwser. Sex ed is really just a how to of having sex. It's a bit like telling someone how a car works, without showing them how to drive it properly. Kids need to be taught the emotional and physical aspects of sex.

Sex Ed is supposed to teach kids about the consequences of sex.

They already have basic sexual education in year 6 (age 11) in the UK, but it is mainly aimed at informing the children about puberty and the changes they will go through (just slideshows of Emo teens really....jk)

No matter what age they start to teach children in this country it is not going to reduce the teenage pregnancy rate.

The problem is simple, the majority's of young people in this country are retarded.

The whole culture at school is wrong they look up to the kids which act out and don't pay attention in class and hence do it themselves.

somehow the culture needs to be changed and i believe that the media or government needs to start doing something as it is obvious now that the parents of these kid are also retarded and cant raise their kids themselves.

"yes jimmy you can watch an 18 rated film, just make sure you are in bed by 3am for secondary school tomorrow........"

bottom line is this stuff should be taught at home for any improvement to occur, the schools should only be used to hammer the message home completely.

"Muuummmm...the teacher sent me out the lesson for throwing a hacksaw at Steven"
"WHAT!! How dare he discipline my little angel !!"

If only we had better discipline in our schools, where people could take action instead of issuing pieces of paper in an effort to make the situation better....If only we had

Ah yes, the good old American double invalidation method.

"We don't want them to know, so we won't tell them about it."

Combined with:

"They already know everything there is to know, so why bother?"

You're right, you didn't explicitly state the first part.

However, it's implicitly stated in your first statement, whether you realize it or not.

The prevailing attitude adopted by the current White House and most Christian groups is that sex education doesn't help decrease teen sex or its accompanying mishaps. In fact, they claim that Sex Ed actually promotes an increase in teenage sex.

However, seeing as the U.S has a teen pregnancy rate that is twice as high as Canada, UK, and nine times as high as Japan and the "socialist" Scandanavian countries, obviously the current U.S stance on Sex Ed is flawed.

By the way, instead of being blindly reactionary towards any American criticism, it would be in your own self-interest, as an individual, to stop and think as to whether the other person actually has a valid point.

From the sound of things over there, they should be taught at 9...

Or maybe you could just cut sex ed altogether, and let them "thin the herd" by spreading some deadly (engineered?) STD's around the chav community.
