Send it as a "gift" and I'm pretty sure it gets through just fine. Into the EU/UK you've got VAT plus an import fee depending on what it is you are importing. I've got no idea what the import tax would be into the US - would have thought that would be different state to state. |

Urban myth - a gift is just as likely to be stopped and tax is still payable above a certain value. |

I always find shipping internationally is a pain in the ass. When I sell stuff on eBay I always refuse to ship outside the UK, it's just too much of a pain.
Having said that, my friend in Canada got me a GREAT deal on some OCZ RAM last year and posted it over marked as a gift. I didn't have to pay any extra, I must have just been lucky |
