Default Bank loan help....
Hey guys, now that I have a lovely new job and am slowly getting funds, I'd like to get my first car! But for this, I need to get a bank loan out, I've never taken a loan out in my entire life, so I'm not sure where the best place to start looking is...

Basically, I want to get around 3000 pounds, to pay off somewhere within 1-3 years every month, I'm 20 years old if that makes any difference.

I'm in the UK, does anyone know some low APR places I can hunt?

I just walked into my bank yesterday to enquire about a £7000 loan and walked out 15 minutes later with all the paperwork signed and the money in my account. It's worringly easy if you're working. I doubt it was the best value loan, though, so you're probably right to shop around.

do not take payment protection.....

you can get apr as low as 5.8 or lower but it depends on loan amount and your circumstances

as you are scottish use northern rock a few scottish people I know have great trouble getting loans and northern rock seemed to be the only one who gave them loans and they aint skint either

In the states you are often able to find the best rate from a car dealership but I have no idea how it works in the UK.

car dealers do offer finance but unless you are buying a new car or a car from a reputable company I wouldnt bother because the apr is in some cases up in the XX figures and of course would you want to hand your details over to a second hand car dealer ?

Best deals tend to come from the dealers in Canada too. I got my car at 1.9% and the very same bank that operates the loan that I got through my dealer would have charged me like 3x more had I come straight to them.

I ended up getting a loan from my dealership...but wished I hadn't. I went to my bank first and got a rate, then I asked my dealership if they could beat it. Little did I know, the guy went to town with my credit and put in 13 separate credit applications. The dealership beat my bank by .25%, but my credit score dropped 35+ pts on that day.

Needless to say, i'll be getting loans from my bank from now on...
