Hello friends,
Since placement targeting is always a rare topic around these forums, so I thought to start one. Before we begin, here is a more detailed article on Placement Targeting that you might want to read. http://www.johnchow.com/how-to-use-g...ent-targeting/ In short, if you place your ads in a targeted sort of way, for example: using a different adsense channel for every category of your blog, your ads will become more relevant and your income will increase. More targeted and relevant ads = more clicks and higher CTR. Also, relevant ads will help in getting more CPC. So, ultimately more income. I have made a wordpress plugin for this purpose. The cost is $20 a year, per API. However, here in this thread am giving it away for free. No catch. You can read more about the plugin here: http://www.johnchow.com/target-your-...-extra-plugin/ Go straight here - http://extraplugin.com/ download the free version. Send me your link by email at - show_email("_0vo@J2FaQLmj@gddV8d."); and will reply back with your API key for the premium version. So far, the people that have used the plugin have told me that the ads are becoming a lot more relevant and the adsense income has increased over time. They report 10% to 30% increase in the income. But i want more feedback on this, so let me know your thoughts. Some people have even told me that their channel was featured in the adwords system for being relevant and highly targeted. This increased their CPC by manyfolds. None of my channels were ever featured on the adwords system though, perhaps my traffic was not enough... would really like to know if any of your channels get featured on the adwords bidding system. This is a no-catch offer. I basically want more people to know about placement targeting and use it to maximize their adsense income. All questions and replies appreciated. Let's make this thread a constructive discussion on placement targeting. thanks, |

The problem is I can't find a way to use custom channels like it was before, that is with the channel ids directly in the html source code.. So how can you target each category of your site? You need a different ad unit for each??? I made my channels from the previous interface, haven't made any more channels since the new interface forcefully rolled out. anyway, I just checked in, and here is how it is done: Go to - My ads - Custom channels - Add new custom channel. name the channel, something short and related. And select, show this ad unit to advertisers. Once you select this option, more options will appear for better targeting. Yes, you should make a separate channel for the important categories of your blog. If you let your weightloss channel appear on the Yeast infection article, the targeting will surely be poor. Make as many categories as possible, the more niche you go, the better. Can i use the pluggin for my blogspot account I see that step number 3 is to buy the premium version. Could you tell me the different between the free and premium version? The difference is the targeting. The free version does not have the category targeting options. any Proof of concept on the plugin ? |

and do we need to target category wise for small and medium traffic sites. You are talking about a site that gets 30k uniques a month. That is a lot of traffic, am sure it will be useful. Even for smaller sites custom channel helps a lot. The more targeted it is, the better the results. |

What I mean is that before, with the old adsense code, everything was in the html and we could add several custom channels to ad units, not via the interface, but right within the html code, programmatically. That way it was easy to create one custom channel per category and switch it in the html code in PHP depending on which category the current page belongs to.
Now with the new ad unit code, the custom channels are attached to the ad unit in the adsense interface. So all I can do is create one ad unit (and custom channel) per category and switch the ad unit depending on the category the current page belongs to. So that means having as many ad units and custom channels as existing categories.. I don't know if you get what I mean, but if not, it doens't matter, it is not important, I just have to adapt. OF course I've asked adsense directly about it and I got no reply.. Who cares.. not a problem really. |

I don't know if you get what I mean, but if not I save the code in the plugin as ad-slots like - Top336*280-Weightloss or bottom336-yoga and so on... |
