Default Barack Obama is secretly pro-Gadaffi - or he's a *****.
I like Hitchens view on the subject: Is Barack Obama Secretly Swiss?

After the fantastically successful interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq, going for the hat-trick makes perfect sense. :-|
It would be a mere formality for the US to set up an effective no-fly zone against Gadaffi - if they actually wanted to...

I guess it might be because the US is pro-Gadaffi. After all, he was an ally of Washington only a month ago and it's not like Gadaffi has been doing anything different to the US in Iraq or Afghanistan - such as routinely opening fire on, or bombing, unarmed civilians...

In fact, it could be argued that Gadaffi is legitimately putting the uprising in Libya and should actually be being supported by his former allies, who IMO have been extremely hypocritical in abandoning him the way they have - especially those evil French.

I think it should be done, but it seems to me that it's a lot easier for the Arab League to call for it without doing anything about than it is for the president of the US to do so and be expected to actually deploy planes.

I also note that neither the British, the French nor the Germans have started flying sorties either.

KH is right, you don't just declare a no-fly zone, you have to bomb radar and SAM sites, maintain patrols to keep helicopters from flying, and risk your pilots getting shot down the entire time.

Why should America get involved in some Bedouin squabble?

I agree, why should they. Gadaffi is an ally of the West, after all. Or at least he was until we decided to stab him in the back.
What ****ing drugs are you on?

We did normalize relations with Libya a few years back but simply removing sanctions and normalizing relations is very far from making him an ally but at least we weren't bombing Libya like Reagan did.

We should not get involved in this. If everyone wanted him gone they should have shut the hell up, and given us overfly rights the last time.

Uh...what the **** are you on about? The only reason the US WOULDN'T have to bomb stuff is if the Qaddafi forces CHOSE TO OBEY THE NO-FLY ZONE.

In other words, you're predicating your claim here on the complete cooperation of Libyan forces with an order from the US. If the US declared a no-fly zone and wasn't ready to bomb the Libyans then the Libyans wouldn't listen to the order. In order to get cooperation then a necessary condition is that you be credibly committed to enforcing the order.
He's suggesting using the same operational procedures as we used for Iraq no fly zone. Totally uncontroversial!

I just reckon that we in the West should actually decide whether we are for democracy - or against it.

Question. Why does the world always look to the US to make the first move? Why not any of the EU countries?
